Paul versus Tyson

Didn't watch it but the consensus seems to be that it was a waste of time.  Which is what boxing has been for the last 20+ years.  Somewhere the great champions of the past are rolling over in their graves.

The fight before the main event made the whole event worthwhile to me but yeah that was a joke for Tyson.

Oh, and Toby Keith is definitely rolling over in his grave.

As seen on Facebook:

Mike Tyson last night was the equivalent to Franco Harris in a Seahawks uniform, Steve Carlton in a White Sox uniform, Michael Jordan in a Wizards uniform, and Hank Aaron in a Brewers uniform.

A friend of mine that spent a lot of money on this custom full head mask.

He even met Tyson once while he was wearing it and Mike showed a lot of interest.

I genuinely don’t know how boxing gets fixed. From what I’ve seen, the high profile fights go to a decision way too often. Guys holding onto each other always happens too much. It just suffers so much in comparison to MMA.

Another as seen on Facebook:

Jake Paul just won against Mike Tyson… and if you've seen the fight, there are some key takeaways that we can all learn from:
1. There's NO WINNING against aging. If you're young, in your teens, twenties, thirties... RESPECT the gift you've been given, and take care of your body. It's a great privilege to be young and in top shape. Use this as a reminder.
2. Jake Paul HELD HIMSELF BACK. Yes, he held himself back, and as much as it was bad for the fight, I respect that he didn't want to humiliate "old" Mike. The moment he realized Mike was not in shape to fight, he stepped back and didn't take the opportunity to knock him down. Say what you want, that speaks quite highly of his character.
3. The event's energy went down the moment everyone realized Mike was in danger. It's ironic, but truthfully, Mike was the underdog in this fight, and despite the low performance, I want to remind everyone that the fight is about much more than just the appearance in the ring. Mike Tyson, in his late 50s, managed to go through a super hard training camp to arrive there and stand for 8 rounds. I think that's something TO RESPECT. And anyone who knows the feeling of our body clock will agree, despite weak performance, it was actually super inspiring. As Mike said himself, at the end of the day, he does it only to prove to himself that he still can fight.
All in all, there will be a lot of hate and negativity about this fight, and so I encourage you to look at the bright side and instead have some positive takeaways from this fight, that can impact your life in a positive light.
Take care of your body.
Appreciate your youth.
Respect hardworking people.
Grow.

And if anyone thinks Tyson at age 27 would lose to Paul at age 27 you are in fact an idiot and there's no help for you.

Still holds true and I think last night showed. That was for entertainment, nothing more. Not a real fight.

Meh, Jordan in a Wizards uniform still did a lot of stuff not many others could or ever did. That's my guy and I'll die on that cross.

So, simply put, I can't even remotely associate last night's fight with Jordan's last time in the NBA with the Wizards. Not even the same level remotely IMO.

That is exactly how a couple of people responded to the original comment. ?

Watching some highlights of the fight, Tyson had several chances early to crack Paul but never threw the punch.

I saw a guy say that in the contract Tyson only got the max payday if the fight went at least 6 rounds. Same guy also said Tyson was not allowed to throw his signature upper cups in the fight.

Seeing the speed demonstrated in his training compared to the fight I'll never believe that he didn't just throw it for the money.

What does that mean exactly?  I've seen several people saying that but I don't really understand why or what it means?  Was their an incentive financially for Tyson to give the fight to Paul?

This was a Paul promotion all the way. If the contract called for the pay to escalate for Tyson the longer the fight went then that would be an incentive.

There is a reason several states, including Kentucky, would not allow bets to be placed on this fight. It was a set up from the get go.
