Will Newport have any home games in 2024?

Don't know if it's true or not, but heard that because of being in a flood plain they are having trouble with putting in rest rooms, locker rooms and concession stand.

Something about since they tore out the old ones instead of rebuilding them where they were, they started  from scratch and  new regulations about being in a flood zone won't allow the new construction.

@AirRaidCoach shared this document from the Newport Independent School Board in another thread. From what I would infer, there is a policy with the Kentucky Board of Education (and NOT with the building department) that prohibits restroom facilities being built within a floodplain. Newport applied to have the policy waved, and the state BOE granted their waver. So now they are going to build the restrooms for the stadium on an elevated landing at the bottom of the 9th Street steps.

The document mentions that the architect is aware of the situation and they're waiting on details from surveying to move forward with things. I'd doubt they'll have construction of a bathroom facility completed prior to the football season if that's still the stage of things they're in, but I don't see why they wouldn't be able to bring in a slew of port-o-lets or even one of those restroom trailers I've seen around a few times now. Still, I'd like to see something definitive about whether or not Newport will have home games this season.

I'm not quite familiar enough with the stadium to know where the 9th Street steps come down. Anyone know?

If I'm not mistaken, that would place them on the opposite end of the stands from where they used to be, so bottom of your pic. I think the steps are by the Linden/9th intersection if I'm remembering correctly.

Looking at that pic it would be the bottom left corner of the field. Steps come in from that corner, which is an elevated lot where coaches usually parked.

So with the new updates on the KHSAA Scoreboard, it looks like they are trying to encourage having some additional attention given to the actual game sites rather than simply listing "home" or "away".

I took a gander at New Cath's schedule on the Scoreboard, and aside from potentially playing their game against Newport at Newport stadium, it looks like none of their games will be played at Newport Stadium. That could potentially be a leftover deal from making two year contracts for games and New Cath simply planning ahead and booking stadiums to play for this year too, or that may be evidence that there are still issues with the ability to have football games hosted at Newport Stadium.

Newport Central Catholic High School 2024 Kentucky Football
Aug 23 vs. Lloyd Memorial - At Covington Catholic
Aug 30 vs. Walton-Verona - At Walton-Verona Athletic Complex
Sep 6 vs. Scott - Away
Sep 13 vs. Conner - At Covington Catholic
Sep 20 vs. Campbell County - At Dixie Heights
Sep 27 vs. Raceland - At Covington Catholic
Oct 11 vs. Newport - Away
Oct 18 vs. Dayton - Away
Oct 24 vs. Bellevue - At Dixie Heights
Nov 1 vs. Holmes - At Covington Catholic

It doesn't look like Newport has added any distinctions about where their game sites are with their schedule on the KHSAA Scoreboard, so it's still hard telling from their schedule whether or not they are intending on playing games at Newport Stadium.

Didn’t NCC stop playing games at Newport even before the field issues the last two years?

They have always had a game or two at another location. Usually, Holmes or CovCath when NewCath and Npt schedule conflicted. Hell NewCath played Beechwood at Highlands one time. When Newport's stands were condemned, NewCath started playing elsewhere. I may be corrected on this, but I have heard the deal with CovCath is almost free. It looks like NewCath should not play another home game at Npt Stadium.

Looks like the Wildcats are playing at home this year, they have about a dozen port-o-let's lined up on the south end of the stadium.

Just visited the new field at Newport.  Just beautiful is an understatement.  The porta-a-let’s don’t add much beauty, but will certainly handle game crowd needs.  In reviewing the floodplain restrictions from FEMA, public restrooms are a clear waiver and are allowed with minimal special design.  So I don’t know why this ever became an issue.  Now locker rooms and concession stands are not specifically mentioned as exceptions so that explains why some floodplain administrators have signed off on vanilla concrete block buildings with zero plumbing and flow-throughs on exterior walls.
