January 23, 200719 yr I read it a little differently... And if this is the way the deal goes down, go for it Atlanta... In a heartbeat! That was posted by Ben Maller of Fox Sports yesterday.... I don't think they have archives, or if they do I can't find them... But here's a link to his rumor mill so maybe someone else can find it. All it shows now is what he put on today. http://www.benmaller.com/nfl_rumors_notes The swopping of the first round trades, changes things alittle. I might be able to see Atlanta doing this.
January 23, 200719 yr I'd defintely do it then. Is it just me or does this seem like a Madden type trade?
January 23, 200719 yr Jan. 23, 2007 - 12:31 p.m. ET Presumably in response to a trade rumor, a Falcons spokesperson said Tuesday that the club has "no plans to trade...or cut" Michael Vick. Atlanta's hire of Bobby Petrino seemed to be directly related the team's plans for Vick, so a trade doesn't seem at all likely right now. That could change in 2008 or possibly after June 1, but the rumor appears to be nothing more than speculation or wishful thinking at this point. Source: Atlanta Journal-Constitution ___________ Jan. 21, 2007 - 12:25 p.m. ET The Falcons would take a $22.6 million cap hit to trade or release Michael Vick before June 1. If the Falcons wait until after June 1 to cut him, they'd save $6 million. It would be ridiculous to trade Vick because of the cap hit. Profootballtalk.com doesn't think either scenario is as likely as Atlanta trading Vick in early 2008 with a restructured contract. January 23, 200719 yr I don't see it happening. The blew it last year when they could have dealt Schaub for BANK! Now they are stuck with what looks like an excellent backup and a confused starter. Both talented with no direction. Falcons dropped the ball on the QB situation IMO.
January 24, 200719 yr Why is it that teams take cap hits for trading players in the NFL? I dont get that.
January 24, 200719 yr http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2740940 Falcons: Vick is our starter, not on trading block ATLANTA -- Michael Vick will not be traded and will be the Atlanta Falcons' starting quarterback in 2007, the team's ownership said Tuesday. "There are no plans to trade him or cut him," Kim Shreckengost, executive vice president of operations for Arthur M. Blank Group, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "Michael is our quarterback and the leader of our team. We have a new head coach who is anxious to start working with him. Everyone has high expectations of him going into next season. Michael has those too." While the team is committed to Vick as starter, there are financial reasons for keeping him as well. The Journal-Constitution reported that if the Falcons were to trade or cut Vick, they would take a hit of roughly $23 million against the $109 salary cap in 2007, probably forcing additional roster cuts and limiting the team's efforts to sign free agents and draft picks. In 74 career NFL games, Vick has completed 930 of 1,730 passes for 11,505 yards and 71 touchdowns with 52 interceptions. He had career bests of 20 touchdown passes and 1,039 yards rushing in 2006.
January 24, 200719 yr Gentlemen, please raise your compartmentalized water bottles and salute your new teammates! At least your talking to all of them. :thumb:
