My question for those in the know or think they are in the know, what does Willie need to do? I keep hearing complaints about this group of kids and that group of kids and why does this kid not play etc, etc. He can only coach those kids that come out for the team. The reason that these kids do not come out is that they are told how they need to get in the weight room to get bigger and stronger for the next football season.

Congratulations Ryle. Have a good year and the coach is a genius, have a bad year and the fans (parents) are the geniuses.

Anyone with at least half a brain knows Ryle will not stay down long.

I'd count myself among those with at least half a brain, and I wonder why you think Ryle should be down at all? They've got a nice mix of talent and size in the junior and senior classes, coupled with gaining some minutes from two very good sophs.

Outside of CovCath and Holmes (when intact) Ryle has the best grouping of size, talent, and experience in the region. Why all the struggles now?

I'll guess it lasts beyond this year.

This could be the worst HHS team in a long time.......

A number of the current juniors earned varsity starts two years ago as freshman. Does that mean the team two years ago has to be worse by default, or does it show a lack of development? Either way, we're debating varying forms of bad at this point.

Don't mean to disrespect anyone but Ryle usually has a better team.

Than who?

Than the one they have this year

7--11 not a typical Ryle year.

See post 20, what's going wrong this year?

Come-on I've all the confidence ii the world that they will rebound but this has been a bad year. I don't care if the 8th grade (grades) class won the world championship. This year is a down year....

I'm trying to think of any talented basketball player that could really help out this year's varsity team whom is not playing on the team this year because he wants to get bigger and stronger for the next football season and I can't think of anyone. 83, whom are you thinking of?

If Willie is to succeed he needs to get down on at least the Middle school level, identify the talent that is not playing football, and work with these kids. Relying on football players is not working. Sure they're big strong kids that dominate in middle school, ala the jr class( 8th grade state runnersup) but once you hit high school strength will not cut it. You need to have skill. All I know 83 and DMZ and all past HHS roundballers ya can't be happy with the state of the bball program as it is. Do we settle for what it is. Hope for a regional championnship every so often, or should we expect more out HHS basketball? Wonder how loud the outcry would be if football was in this shape at Highlands:creepy:

I don't know of any, I think he was referring to the Frosh who arent playing in Hogue,Roller and Austin C. If you want my take on what I think Willie should do then here goes. Like Malachi stated, I would get involved more with the talent at the Jr high level and figure out who the straight basketballers are and start working with them. Not to say he shouldnt work with the combo athletes but his emphasis needs to be focused on as many straight ballers that are walking the halls at the Middle school. The football/Bball combo guys will always be there but they cant gurantee you to win REgional Championships. I know, I know.. jared/Derek/ Stegman...that class was an excption.

Schools like Ryle have more kids to pick from so they are going to get a higher percentage of straight ballers than combo athletes.

Good job Raiders.

Congratulations to Coach Mullins and team!!!
