Both teams travel to Warren East HS to open up the J Allen Builders Bowl, who do we got?

These are 2 teams I've followed for many years but seems of late haven't found the time or inclination to do so.  So looked at their 2022 records to try to make an educated guess as to who might win this game.  This is what I found:

Franklin Simpson - 3A  alot of their traditional rivals are in higher classes than them now (Logan County, Warren East, Allen County Scottsville, and historically Bowling Green).

The Wildcats were 7 and 4 last season losing a close home playoff game to Hopkinsville 24-17.  Their head coach Max Chaney, Sr took over for the legendary Doug Preston in the Covid Year (2020) and has steadily been making gains down in Franklin.

They have 48 players on their roster (FR-15, SO-13, JR-7, SR-13).  Both QBs and both RBs are back this year, but their top 2 WRs graduated.  On defense, 2 of their top 5 tacklers return.

SCHEDULE:  The Wildcats have a manageable schedule with teams I'd expect to be on their schedule.  I like that as you are building confidence.  With that said, this game would go a long way to boosting that young confidence for those younger Wildcats.

Christian County - 6A, where they have been historically, but also have been in BGs 5A District 2 back not too far removed.  Christian County has had some super teams over the years, but after the fine teams culminated by QB Kolbe Langhi's era ending in a 1-Loss season in 2017, it just seems the wheels fell off descending to a winless 2019 campaign and ultimately Coach Steve Lovelace's departure after the Covid season (2020) after 13 seasons in Hopkinsville.  The Colonels are now on their 3 head coach (Zachery Self) since that 2020 season just looking for some stability.  But not sure that will be found soon.  Why?  Well, it's been promoted for a while now that Christian County will merge with Hopkinsville and form a new combined school.  Will that actually happen?  I just don't know.

But this is having an effect IMO as last season Coach Blake Ladson had 80 guys on his roster.  That's a Great Number!  This season shows only 57 guys (FR-15, SO-11, JR-8, SR-21).  That's a Big Hit!

The Colonels do return their top 2 QBs used last season along with both their leading RBs and their second leading WR.  No defensive data is provided.

SCHEDULE:  The Colonels have some TOUGH sledding games out of district at BG and vs Mayfield; then have South Gibson, TN and Marion, IL both on the road.  Don't know anything about the last 2 but doesn't sound good to me.  This is a very important game for County out of the gate for confidence purposes alone.

I picked Christian County in the poll, but this is easily a pick 'em game for me.  Could swing either way.

Good luck to both teams this year!

I think I'll take Franklin by a slim margin in this one. Preparation is paramount when dealing with the Wildcats and the scheme they operate in offensively.

I could probably be convinced to change on this one, but I didn't really garner any information watching CC scrimmage Warren East. Both games at the J Allen Builders Bowl are coin flips, IMO.

FS scrimmaged Ohio County and outscored them 6 TDs to none, but that is par for the course historically between those 2 teams. Last week FS scrimmaged Green County for 2 varsity quarters and they tied 14-14. FS JV outscored Green 1 TD to zero. Green County’s passing game was very good I thought. Unless Christian County is improved, I think FS will win.

Christian has a good shot winning this game.. County’s QB miles is one of the better running QB’s you will see this year and has two really good WR’s who have great length.. Defensively they have been giving up some points in the scrimmages but do run to the ball pretty good.. Like to see County have some success in their finial year of the program..

With 4:26 before half FS 14 Christian County 14

FS 21 CC 14 with 41.4 before half

Half FS 21 CC 14

Satterly scores for FS making it 27-14 wildcats lead with 5:49 to go in 3rd

Pat was no good.

FS drives 96+ yards for a TD

docerson scores from 1 out.

FS 33 CC 14

with 7:41 to go in game.

Fs 40 cc 14 with 3:38 to go

With 2:02 it’s  FS 40 CC 20

With 1:54 it’s now FS 40 CC 28
