Final.

Kind of surprised at this one and not. I felt like Marquette had a solid chance of advancing far, but Izzo can’t ever be counted out. He’s one of the best in the business and showed it again today. Even with Marquette losing, the Big East has done pretty well to this point.

Tom Izzo would have been an interesting case study if he was the UK coach. Everyone talks about how great of a coach he is and how he wins in the tournament. Which is all true he is great and is very successful in the tournament. Yet if he had the same resume as the UK coach and only one title and it being over 20 years since that title. Fans would have wanted him gone 12 years ago if he was at UK. It kind of shows the unrealistic expectations at UK. If you fall short of final fours, it’s well hasn’t made a final four in awhile. Yet if you made a lot of final fours but not winning it all. It’s well you have only won one title.

I agree with you on all points. I also believe your point is valid about many being unrealistic with expectations of UK basketball. Granted, the more Final Fours made and championships won, the more successful. But to flip your point, what does this say about Spartan fans and being more realistic/unrealistic? I’m sure there’s plenty who have wanted him gone, but I believe that the majority is happy with him. I believe it was said during the game that Michigan State has made 15 Sweet Sixteen’s over the past 25 years, which is impressive. I believe they also said that Izzo has second most Sweet Sixteen appearances. 
 

Either way, I totally agree that Izzo would make an interesting case study with UK and other programs based on his overall career coaching statistics.

Izzo's track record for making Final Fours is nuts. But would the BBN have ran him out of town for no titles since 2000, and for often times okay-good regular seasons?

He turns it on in the tournament though. He now has the record for most wins as the lower seed.

I'm a huge Izzo fan, by the way. Huge and always cheer for him as long as they don't play Kentucky. He helped me win a ML parlay with Xavier and Miami today!

Kinda prefer Kansas State get him in the Sweet 16 though.

That’s what makes him so interesting. Don’t know how many seasons they have been on borderline of okay/good but played well in the tournament. Even with no national championship since 2000, Tom Izzo is very good and most coaches can’t do what he has with several of the seasons like they had been.

He definitely seems to get the most out of his guys.

Used to average a Final Four every 4 years. Idk if he's still doing it at that clip, but it can't be too far off. 

Big fan.

Izzo is Tubby Smith with a handful of deeper NCAA tournament runs.

Izzo has made eight final fours; three of those came in consecutive years from '99-'01. The last two decades +, it has been a trip every 4 or 5 years. He has also been eliminated before the second weekend just as many of times. A lot of feast/famine in Izzo's career. But yes, he would have been run out of town in Lexington.
