2023 NASCAR Cup Series

Featured Replies

As I mentioned in the other thread, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won the 2023 Daytona 500.

In Round 2 at Auto Club Speedway, Kyle "Rowdy" Busch won and it is his first win with his new team (Richard Childress Racing - RCR) in the # 8 Lucas Oil Chevrolet.  From NASCAR.com, the race was announced as the final Cup Series event on the 2-mile configuration of the Fontana, Calif., oval. The venue is planning a redesign to a short track and won’t host a NASCAR weekend in 2024.

Busch is my favorite driver so this was a big day for me.

Anyone have any thoughts on NASCAR this year?  I know we have some other fans on BGP. ?

No speedometer, but timed, 8 laps, I was in Dale Jrs old car, first lap à  fast 90, last few laps 120, they max out at 150, I was fine with 120s. Those banks come fast.

  • I watch the Trucks and Xfinity races too so the new faces blend right in to me.  Also, this year NASCAR is doing away with cautions at the end of the stages on Road Races so that was a plus.  Overall

In round 3 at Las Vegas Hendrick Motorsports swept the top three positions with William Byron finishing first, Kyle Larson second, and Alex Bowman third.  They Chevys were on point last week.

Phoenix Raceway is up this weekend.

William Byron makes it two in a row with a win at Phoenix after a couple of late cautions.

The rest of the top 5 was:

2. Ryan Blaney
3. Tyler Reddick
4. Kyle Larson
5. Kevin Harvick

We are on different side on nascar, I root for anyone not named Bush. Darn good driver though.

I pretty much like all the drivers but I understand on Kyle, you either love him or you "hate" him.

From NBCSports.com and it makes me question their dominance as of late:

NASCAR severely penalized Hendrick Motorsports on Tuesday for issues with the hood louvers that was discovered on all four Hendrick cars last weekend at Phoenix Raceway.

NASCAR issued the following penalties:

Docked Alex Bowman, Kyle Larson and William Byron 100 points and also penalized them 10 playoff points each.
Suspended crew chiefs Cliff Daniels, Alan Gustafson, Rudy Fugle and Blake Harris four races each. NASCAR also fined each $100,000.
NASCAR penalized each of the four Hendrick team 100 owner points and 10 playoff points.

Also from NBCSports, Denny Hamlin has been fined $50,000 and has been penalized 25 driver points after admitting that he intentionally wrecked Ross Chastain during last Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Phoenix Raceway.

I think Hamlin got off easy but NASCAR went even easier on Bubba Wallace last year so I understand NASCAR couldn't be too hard on Hamlin.

I will add, this intentionally wrecking other drivers is one of the few negatives I see with NASCAR.

Not as fond of Hamilin as I used to be, most of my favorites are gone or close to retiring. Those were some hefty fines. I got to drive the Rusty Wallace experience at KY Speedway, fun day.

Same on Hamlin, he "cries" about too much for me.

How fast did you go?

I know some of my NASCAR friends don't care for road courses but the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) is my favorite road course.  It is a F1 purpose built track and it is amazing.  Here were the top five from yesterday:

1. Tyler Reddick

2. Kyle Busch

3. Alex Bowman

4. Ross Chastain

5. William Byron

From NBCSports winner Tyler Reddick said:

"Just so proud of this Monster Energy Toyota Camry TRD. Toyota, everybody, all the resources they’ve been putting into this to help turn around the road course program means a lot. I’m out of gas. But I feel a little bit better with Monster Energy."

Me again, I felt better when I had a Monster Energy Saturday night too. ?

Reddick had the best car and he is a very good road course driver, no surprises here.

I just don't know any of the new kids and don't have time or the inclination to get to know them I guess.  I liked the old guard much more just like the Indy Series.

I guess I just got enamored with F1 and haven't come back.
