That’s starting to clarify a little. So based on this, where does Feagan and Breeden fit in this scenario?

Good question, let me get settled in at my desk and I’ll have a response here in a little bit.

Amburgey (Oldham), Feagan (Williamstown) both are notable omissions.  Good arguments for some others.  Seriously, though, tough year for the voters.   There's a LOT of talent in this region this year.

Please do….

If I was a coach in the 8th region, I'm pretty certain I could tell you the players on each team that has been doing damage all year. That's if we have played them or not. I'm just a fan and can tell you the best couple of players on each squad. By just reading Adrians report each week gives you a heads up. I know I might be a little biased since being from the same county as Feagan and Breeden. I said a month ago that Feagan would play quality minutes for any team in the region. He would start for most teams. We know Hammonds is the heart of Braves basketball but Spencer brings that energy . I've seen him really coming on since the first of the year. They're is no perfect system for picking an all regional team. And I`m not saying any one of these kids don't deserve it, but will say I think these two guys numbers match up favorably with many of the picks.

Okay, here is the top 15 scorers in the region, and if they made the all-region team or not. Notice that of the 15 scorers, 10 made the list, and 5 did not. The highest one of the group being Colton Feagan, who was 7th in the region in scoring coming in at 19.9 ppg.

Name Team PPG All Region?
Moore, Teagan Owen County 31.3 Yes
Hammonds, Dylan Grant County 26.3 Yes
Green, Max Oldham County 23.6 Yes
Wilcoxson, James Thomas Trimble County 22.9 Yes
Erhardt, Luke Spencer County 22.7 Yes
Johnson, Jasper Woodford County 21.8 Yes
Feagan, Colton Williamstown 19.9 No
Goodin, Kenyon Collins 19.8 Yes
Ruzanka, Josh Eminence 18.8 No
Horn, Ethan Trimble County 18.8 No
Dossett, Kellen Gallatin County 18.6 No
Roberts, Dallas North Oldham 18.2 Yes
Miles, Julian South Oldham 17.7 Yes
Gutman, Aaron Walton-Verona 17.5 Yes
Ritchey, Dillon Shelby County 16.8 No

Now, here is a look at the all-region team in order of votes aqquired, and how they rank among scoring within the region.

Name Team PPG Scoring Rank
Teagan Moore Owen County 31.3 1
Dallas Roberts North Oldham 18.2 12
Dylan Hammonds Grant County 26.3 2
Kenyon Goodin Collins 19.8 8
Max Green Oldham County 23.6 3
Jasper Johnson Woodford County 21.8 6
Luke Erhardt Spencer County 22.7 5
Luke Anderson North Oldham 12.2 32
Gabe Dynes Simon Kenton 12.4 30
Travis Krohman Simon Kenton 15.5 19
Aaron Gutman Walton-Verona 17.5 14
Ian Higdon North Oldham 10.9 44
Julian Miles South Oldham 17.7 13
Quintin Simmons Collins 11.7 36
Julian Dixon Walton-Verona 13.6 17
JT Wilcoxson Trimble County 22.9 4

I think my biggest takeaway from these two spreadsheets is that scoring does not matter as much as people think when voting occurs.

One big aspect of this seems to be the level of the team you play on. When you look at the first list, every player left off of the all-region roster played on a middle to bottom tier team. Outside of JT Wilcoxson and Julian Miles every player that did make it on the roster out on the 1st list played for one of the top-tier teams in the region.

Another name mentioned was Spencer Breeden. As of today, he ranks 28th in the region coming in at 13.4 ppg. Players above him in scoring that also did not make the all-region list are Honore Yangoua (Williamstown), Matthew Griffin (Gallatin County), Carter Krohman (Walton-Verona), Gunner Feagan (Williamstown), Elijiah League (Eminence), Joey Frasure (Anderson County), Brax Ward (Owen County), Camden Cox (Spencer County), and Luke Amburgey(Oldham County).

Surprised Amburgey didn’t make it. Scores. Rebounds. And must have set some sort of record for most charges taken in a season.

I see what you are saying, but it's not really in contravention with what I was saying earlier.  When I said, basically, scoring is the only stat that matters, I wasn't suggesting that the coaches simply listed the top 16 scorers from the Region and picked them.  I was saying, they basically decided which player or players from a given team by looking at points per game.  If a team was only good enough to warrant 1 player selected, then they took that team's leading scorer.  If a team was good enough to get 2 players, they took the two leading scorers.  And in North Oldham's case, which I agree deserved 3 players, they took the top 3 scorers on that team.  I like Amburgey a lot, but at 15-14, I suspect the voters just didn't think OC should have 2 players.

I know, but @StevnASmith said he wanted to see where both Feagan and Breeden matched up in the scoring column.
I would think that it is pretty common sense that your players on the all-region roster will be a leading scorer on the team. I could see an exception, but probably only if it is within a 1-2 point difference of the leading scorer on the team.

I am sure that if you go back many years, and go to other regions the same will apply with them.

Good players at small schools who don’t play well above 500 get overlooked. Once in a while one might get a look. Looking at your spreadsheet there are definitely players who got snubbed, Feagan probably the biggest.

I agree, they are overlooked. But I can see the reasoning behind it from the coaches when they are placing their votes. It is not fair to these kids in small schools, but like I said earlier it will never be perfect.

Maybe there could be an All-A all-region team to give these kids some sort of recognition?

Teams that struggle are not gonna get a player on there unless they are crushing the scoring column.  Amburgey was definitely the biggest snub.  If the Demons had a better record and had upset a good team, Feagan would have probably made it.

I’m wondering if NO would have gotten a 4th player if Scales has been healthy this year?
