Who:   Oldham County vs. #4-ranked North Oldham

When:  Friday, 1/20/23, tip approximately 7:45 pm (Immediately after girls' matchup)

Where:   North Oldham HS, Goshen, KY

Broadcast:   FREE, live hi-def video coverage begins at 5:30 pm ET on www.pegasussportsky.com

District Seeding Implications:   #4-ranked North Oldham will be playing its first district 29 seeding game.   Oldham County (1-0, after a 78-76 victory over South Oldham last Friday) will claim the District 29 #1 seed if they can upset the Mustangs.

If North prevails, the District #1 seed would still be up in the air, pending the North vs South Oldham game on 1/27.   A 3-way tie for first would still be possible, with all three teams finishing 1-1 in seeding play.

With District 29 being a 3-team district, the team with the #1 seed would get a "bye" to the district finals - meaning essentially a free pass to the 8th Region tournament.

There will be a girls' varsity game between Oldham and North preceding the boys' game.   Pegasus Sports (www.pegasussportsky.com) will go on-air with a pregame show at 5:30 pm, then will cover both the girls' and boys' games live.   (both games will also be archived).

This at North - I'll be surprised if it's close to be honest.  My suspicion is Higdon + Anderson will manage to get Amburgey in foul trouble, and if that happens I don't know that OC has a plan B on the inside.  Max will get his points, but not sure who else will score much, unless Abram manages to get off more shots than he's been getting.

Was just looking at the South/OC box score, and it's one of those head scratchers you see sometimes - meaning, not sure how it was that close.  South was outrebounded 34-17, and OC shot 22 free throws to 4.  Seems like a recipe for a sound defeat.  The power of the 3, I suppose, is the answer.......

I attended this game.

The power of the 3 is correct. South makes you defend the whole floor and I could see where if they get hot it could be a long night for anyone.

OC has a Big 3 and little production anywhere else.

North is really good and provides different issues for OC. Might be a long night for the Colonels.

I think north wins but wouldn’t shock me to see OC win based on the old rule of thumb that the team with the best player generally wins- which is Oldham in this case.  Dallas has only beaten OC once in 7 (I think) tries and that was last years super ugly, burn the film OT game. Granted this OC team is different, but if things are tight North kids could begin to think about their year in year out lack of success vs OC.  Both teams play zone so it will probably come down to 3s and who rebounds better.

That’s interesting.  I think by now, out of habit if nothing less, most folks would say North had the best player on the court.

You are probably right that most people would say that. And Dallas is excellent, a proven winner and a great competitor. But- I’d take a 6’6 point over a 6’0 any day- assuming skill level comparable- which it is in this case. Certainly next level potential is by far and away in Greens favor. Doesn’t mean Dallas can’t get it done Friday….

All true - if you accept the premise that Green is truly a point. I don’t think he is.  All the things he does well point to him being a 2, and the weaknesses in his game all involve being a 1.  Just my opinion of course.

I agree with your premise for pretty much every one who plays point- outside of a few.  the game has changed and the traditional point is a dinosaur, unfortunately IMO and almost all 1s are combo guards which leads to more “clunky” play than a traditional point would produce. Dallas included. Without looking I assume Green and Dallas both lead their teams in shots taken.  With green it’s probably out of necessity based on the personnel but time will tell- Dallas has always been a combo guard in my opinion- never a true point.

Yes, I hear that.  A kid I know pretty well (happens to live in my house 😊) plays point, and leads his team in assists, rebounds, minutes, shots blocked, charges, floor burns, field goal percentage, and three-point percentage.   He is very much a pass-first kind of player, so he doesn’t lead his team in scoring.  The vast majority of the time someone comments on his team (traditional media, social media, in person, whatever), if an individual player is named, it’s the kid who does lead them in scoring.  Which is fine, and understood.  That’s how we all think - you hear the final score of a game, the obvious first question everyone asks is who led them in scoring?  No one thinks to ask “who led them in assists?”  heh.   It’s the way the world works.  He doesn’t care about that, he just wants to win.  But most kids, they naturally want the hype (I don't mean that as a negative, it's human nature), and the only way to get it is to score in bunches.  So, yeah, you don’t see many “traditional point guards” anymore…….

in 16 games, Green has taken 293 shots, the next most on the team is 143.

in 20 games (one fewer than others), Roberts has taken 268 shots, next most is 168.

In the little I’ve seen of Green the assessment above is correct. Point out of necessity.

I walked by OC in warmups the other night 6’6 might be a little on the short side. He seems MUCH taller…

which is curious/funny, as Mom and Dad aren't exactly giants.  Reminds me of Tyler Herro, who is close to (if not actually) 6'6.  Dad is maybe 6'1 and Mom is 5'6.  Just a case of God saying, I have something a little different in mind for you. 😊

God is great in many ways and works in mysterious ways as you say.

I am one of those lucky ones granted a little extra. Mom 5’5, Dad 5’9, somehow I am 6’2 with my brother at 5’8 and sister at 5’5.  Odd the way genetics work as my height probably comes from my moms side of the family as she had some uncles that were 6’4.
