Didn’t even realize they were in the district. Certainly clears it up! Unfortunate waste of time for both parties though.

And yet some insist it's a good idea that District teams be required to play home/away every season ...

They don't have to play. Latin could choose to not play seeding games and just slot in as the lowest seed in the district.

Correct, Heritage Academy does that in the 33rd District. 

Why would a team of teenagers who try out for basketball ever just forfeit?  So they got killed. I’m sure they’ve been in beat downs before. Who cares. It’s a hour and 15 minutes of your life. Maybe one of the guys they play against will be in the NBA (probably not this case but just as an example) and they will talk about it forever down the road. Maybe I can see this option in football where there is a danger factor….
