12th Region Week 4 Review

Featured Replies

Speaking of District play. I hear Garrard County gym floor has been flooded by busted water line. Has anyone got any information on how bad the floor is? I believe it is GC year to host district. Where will Home games/district be held?

They’re beatable no question. A 12th region team with 3 talented players and 3 that play extremely hard and know their roles. That’s a formula for success in high school basketball and definitely will

  • There are 5 teams that really stand a good chance at win it all IMO at this time. In no certain order Lincoln, West Jessamine, Pulaski, Danville & DCA. These teams if playing well could beat anyon

  • Pulaski could easily have 2-3 losses too.  I don’t see a great or dominant  team in the region this year, and that creates parity.  Should be very excited district/regional tourneys!

All of the top teams in the 12th have tight rotations. As you said, Pulaski mostly plays 6 players as does DCA. Lincoln 6-7 for the most part. West likewise. I haven’t seen Danville to say for sure but their stats would indicate that as well. Point is it’s rare for a high school team to have enough talent to really justify playing more than 6 to 7 players, 8 at the absolute most. When their regular rotation is larger than that, they’re likely missing opportunities by having better players sit more than they should. It doesn’t work well.

A tight rotation with players that understand their roles and are held accountable to them is the foundation for being successful. Almost always characteristics of successful high school  teams.

I agree with this.  My point was when you’re thin it brings into play injuries/illnesses @ the wrong time derailing your whole season.  But, that applies to most teams.

That's the gym at the new school. Garrard still plays their games at the old gym at Garrard Middle School (the former GCHS). Should have no effect on games but certainly will affect practice schedules.

Heard from couple Parents it was the Middle School gym where they play games.

I was just told that that the Lincoln/Garrard January 10th double-header was moved to Lincoln due to the damaged floor, and that the 45th District tournament is moved to Lincoln for this year, with Garrard hosting next year instead.

This is correct. I was wrong yesterday; I was unaware of the issue at the main gym.

You were correct. I think there’s been some water issues at multiple places and I had heard about a different spot. Sorry for the confusion.

It really stinks for those kids not being able to play at home and host the district if it is not resolved quickly. Especially Senior Golden Lions.

That's a tough break for Garrard.  Defending champs Lincoln will host their district and region.  Rich get richer!

I’ve seen the movie about Lincoln losing to the 4/5 in district tourney. Excuse me, if I’m reluctant to say it will happen.  I’ll have to see it to believe it first.  Most of the time they cruise in that game.

Lincoln will be ready. DCA and PC will be  ready.   Coin flip as of now

They should have the 45th District tournament at Centre College.

Would be a cool venue.  I just don't think they would want to have split sessions.

I agree with this about LC and PC.  DCA still has a lot to prove to me.  Yes, they have talent and hard working kids, but they don't have the pedigree as a Lincoln and Pulaski has.  Now, maybe they do prove it but I wouldn't pick them to make the regional tournament right now.

I understand your thought process but I think they have to be a favorite to make it out of district (along with Lincoln). Danville could pull it off but I think DCA is the better team.

Lincoln, Boyle, Danville/DCA, Garrard...I know Boyle is struggling right now, but it would shock me one bit if you see Lincoln/Boyle final (Boyle still has really high upside).  I've seen it a ton of times over the years.  That tradition/pedigree tends to rise to the top.  I wish a stat guy could put how many Lincoln/Boyle finals there have been since re-alignment in 2004.  Maybe @gchs_uk9
