Swarm Of Yellow Jackets Descends On The Capitol To Decide District Championship

Records: Central (5-4) | Franklin County (4-4)

BGP Ranking: Central (#5 in 4A) | Franklin County (#8 in 4A)

Series History: Franklin County leads 4-2 all-time

Table Setter: When realignment placed the Yellow Jackets and Flyers in the same district three years ago, it birthed what has become one of 4A's defining district rivalries of this cycle. The first three games were wire to wire defensive battles. Franklin County has taken the last three, two of which saw the Flyers dominate Central in a way few other schools their size have done in the last fifteen years. They've also won three straight this season following a 1-4 start. But when you look at the schedule, a little slack must be cut. Those four losses came against teams with a combined record of 30-2.

Central can relate, having taken their own lumps against a schedule perhaps more demanding than Franklin County's. To put it mildly, both are battle hardened. In the Flyers' case, maybe to their own detriment, as injuries to star players persisted for weeks. None more so than Kaden Moorman's. The one time Mr. Football candidate was M.I.A. from Week 5 through Week 9, when he resurfaced to score two touchdowns against Waggener. Having him back is a huge shot in the arm for the Flyers. He ran for just shy of three hundred yards and four touchdowns in two games against Central last year.

In this matchup of run-centric offenses, the Jackets counter with their own stud ball carrier, super sophomore Cortez Stone, who ranks among the state leaders in rushing yards. A healthy Moorman should make this one of the better running back battles we've seen this year.

If everyone is healthy, this should be a titanic clash.

Perhaps reminiscent of the 2020 season when Central won a close, low-scoring affair in the regular season and then Franklin County won the playoff rematch.

Central 7-0 after one quarter. They just stopped the Flyers on 4th down inside the Central 30.

Central with a short TD run capping a long drive. Central 14-0 with about 3 minutes left before the half.

Thanks, I was just coming here to post the score.

Wow!

Halftime Central leads 14-0.

Moorman hasn't done much so far, the Jackets defense is playing well. Central with a few big passes in the first half, one to convert a 4th and 12 on their first TD drive and another 50 yard pass to set up their second score.

66 yard td pass for Central on third and six. Jackets 21-0 about ten minutes left in the third.

Flyers punt to Central 25.

35 yard field goal for Central as they lead it 24-0 with just under 5 minutes to go in the third.

Central 24-0 after 3 quarters.
