Bowling Green (4-1) at Father Ryan (TN) (2-3)

The Fighting Irish of Father Ryan will host Bowling Green, coming off their first loss of the season vs stout Boyle County (35-21).  These 2 have met twice before.  The first was the 2019 Rafferty’s Bowl with Father Ryan winning that game 24-21.  I remember it as the game Vito Tisdale didn’t get any touches on offense.  Moving on.  Last season Father Ryan also won 38-14 in a game Ryan took control in early. 

I turned to my Tennessee High School guru @Maroon Beech, who reported Father Ryan is DII Class 3A.  Father Ryan lost to Nashville East (DI Class 4A) & Pope Prep (DII Class 3A).  Pope is 4-0 now.

Wins against Cane Ridge & Brentwood HS, both are ranked in the AP Top 10 for Division I (public) Class 6A.  They were handled by Montgomery Bell Academy who is #1 in Division II (Private) Class 3A (largest) 45-7 last week.

In that podcast, Coach Rector reports Father Ryan is looking for defensive consistency this year.  Players to watch for the Irish include:  JR QB JoJo Crump, dual threat QB is the leader of the team.  SO RB Mason Bryant has stood out this year with his vision and quickness.  JR WR Charlie Becker 36” vertical and runs 4.4 40 who just picked up an offer from Vanderbilt.  Defensively, Drake Carlson a Purdue commitment is the leader of the defense.  So it looks like the Purples will have their hands full again this week.

For Bowling Green, Friday night was a tough outing falling 35-21 to a very sound Boyle County squad.  BG made some super plays and led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.  But Boyle County rushed the ball very well against BG and took advantage of 2 key fumbles to get the win.

QB Deuce Bailey had a very good game for the Purples, but fumbled at midfield when BG was on the march really cost BG in the second quarter and allowed Boyle County to dominate the time of possession in that 2^nd Quarter.  JR WR Easton Barlow also played very well with multiple key receptions including a spectacular 77 yard TD, but again had another key fumble that thwarted another BG drive.  Great effort by the Purples.  This was a VERY physical game and there were injuries for sure.  How those play out and who’s available will go along way in knowing what to expect at Father Ryan.  Honestly, it’s a tough game to schedule with South Warren, a game that means everything really, the very next week.  But not time to cry for BG; the season is on and it’s time to step up and get back to business.  Go Purples!

I love this series and think it’s really positive for both teams. I hope it continues.

Father Ryan plays a brutal schedule, so they probably don’t get the respect they deserve.

I think both of these teams are fairly close to each other this year. However, I just think BG just isn’t strong enough.

I give Father Ryan a two touchdown win. 

Like Killowatt said above, Father Ryan is way better than what their record shows. But I believe BG's offense took good strides vs an impressive Boyle squad. I'm going to take BG in this one.

That would be alright with me, lol.  Hope you’re correct.

I still say Father Ryan is just going to be too much for BG. I think it will be a lot like the Boyle County game. BG is just not strong enough.

I'm really not sure what to expect tonight.  I just know so little about Father Ryan.

I expect it will be close.  I think  BG will score 2 or 3 TDs.  Will that be enough?

I know Father Ryan beat Brentwood, who beat Blackman. That says a lot on its own.
