In reading more about this and following the tea leaves, Brady was never going to retire. He was simply trying to get out from playing in Tampa, so he "retired" in hopes Tampa would trade or release him. He was rumored to mostly want to go home to San Fransisco or be shipped to Miami.  Tampa called his bluff. Bill Simmons would bet on him playing for TB, but still thinks there is something to the SF trade possibility. The Bucs made a couple of key free agent signings to bolster their roster around Brady.
