The Wednesday portion of the Sweet 16® concludes at 8:30 pm with a Mountain Battle between 13th Region Champion, North Laurel & 15th Region Champion, Pikeville.

The Jaguars enter the Tournament knowing what it's like to play in the spotlight.  The team's top scorer, and arguably the Commonwealth's top player, junior guard Reed Sheppard, has drawn eyeballs to the North Laurel program for the last couple of years.  Sheppard nets 25.5 ppg, shoots 54.7% from the floor, 90.2% from the charity stripe, & pulls down a team-high 6.8 rpg.  But the UK commit isn't a one-man show by any means, as his classmate Ryan Davidson scores 20 ppg & averages 6.6 rpg.

Former Sweet 16® Champion & Tournament MVP, Elisha Justice, brings his Pikeville club to Lexington for the Greatest Show In Hoops for the first time since 2018.  The Panthers won their first game and lost in the Quarterfinals that season.  The 15th Region Champs have just 2 blemishes opposite 31 victories on the season & have 4 players averaging double-figures in scoring.

      They didn't play a schedule, Reed & Co did, hard to know how a team will respond to first big test AT Rupp.  Pikeville has answered that well, obviously.   Good for them, I LOVE it.

    I think most people will pick North Laurel, and I will too.  But I feel like this could be a dandy.  Give me North Laurel winning 70-67.
