*With a new QB, TB, OL and WR's, the Rock has some early tests to prepare when they meet the defending State Champs in week 10.

The Rock is the Rock and Coach Larkey and staff will have them ready to go come Aug. 24th. :thumb:

Wow that is an early season game for Bell and Rock to play. Playing in September is a big change!

Why are they playing all their district games early?

I guess everyone calling for that Rock vs. Wayne County game should be happy.

The KHSAA set up the district games. It was set up to play early because the district has to play in the 1st two rounds of the playoffs. That way #1 and #4 seeds will not play the 1st round after the 10th game. Wish it was left the way it was. Playing the other district. KHSAA has to mess it all up.

Rockcastle County is going to have some talent but that talent is a year away from being what the Rocket fans are used to.

This team would normally be a JV team in past years but due to mass graduation...you've gotta play what you've got. Please don't take that statement in the wrong way because I think that the guys will play extremely hard but the inexperience will show early so that's why you play teams like this.

If I'm not mistaken, most of the players that will be stepping in for the Rockets will be sophomores and juniors next year. The QB should be pretty good in a few years if not next year.

With Bell returning most of their team from this year, the early meeting on Log Mountain should be a good one. Bell will be hard for Rock to beat in this one. As we saw last year, the first game had huge playoff implications due to the home field advantage. Rock would probably fair better if they had three or four more weeks to mature. Should be great game as always, but Bell's experience coupled with several line prospects coming in as freshman could make them even stronger.

You act as if Rock can just go out and schedule teams like Trinity and Highlands play year in year out, when it is very different circumstances. Rock just doesn't keep a pool of D-1 players each year or even a pool of over 45 on the roster. Wayne County will be a good game for the Rockets next season, until you know the situation you shouldn't critisize. You also don't understand that Rock just doesn't have the luxury to travel all over the state, if you notice the majority of these games are scheduled to nearby counties and they are playing:

One 6A school and four 5A schools.

I bet I know what your next response will be...

Dont you hate it when rich programs who can afford to go wherever want to give Mtn teams a hard time over scheduling. Bell and Rock both want to play tough teams every year. Bell played Henry Clay the previous 2 years. Rock has had Dunbar and some other good teams on their schedule. Its just hard to schedule those teams every year. And its also expensive to travel.

Then put yourself in the category of those calling for the game and be happy. I guess I was under the impression that there might not be many people all that excited about it, but maybe I was wrong.:D

I have never seen district games also played as bowl games. Not trying to start anything, just making an observation.

With the new format, there is no other way around it really. The Bowl games have been in place and the district format really messed that part up.

Wayne looks to be the only easy game on the schedule outside of district. Southwestern, Lincoln, and Mercer were very good last year. Expect Whitley to be much better this year. This schedule will have them ready come playoff time.
