I didn’t catch much of the game, but disaster for Greenwood struck pretty much immediately. I felt going in that given Greenwood’s long history of struggling with Bowling Green in general (but especially away from home and ESPECIALLY in the postseason) that the Gators HAD to start well. It was 10-0 before Greenwood called timeout, and it was 13-0 before they scored. They managed to fight back to a three point deficit late in the second quarter, but the tone was set. In my opinion, it was all the mental edge the Purples needed. Even with their youth, they are the ones with the program history of success and the confidence in winning. The Gators may have thought it - the Purples know it. Greenwood never climbed the mountain. The Purples pushed it back to double digits rapidly in the third and that was that. Bowling Green is off to a program record-tying ninth consecutive region tournament. Their victory means that they and Warren Central will have now combined for 26 straight district titles. I strongly suspect it will soon mean the two will have combined for 14 consecutive region titles. 

IMO, Turner solidifies himself for Mr. Basketball tonight as he goes for 30. 
 

Only bragging rights for this Friday night game vs Dragons. 
 

Real game comes if all the stars align for Purples vs Dragons in regional final. 
 

If somehow Purples get to Rupp (very difficult game vs Dragons) Buttry will get the trophy.

Gonna be a good one!

If it isn’t Warren Central and Bowling Green in the region final, one of the more shocking results ever happened. I’m growing more and more certain that the region at-large is incapable of beating Bowling Green. It’s been 18 years since a team outside of the 14th District has beaten Bowling Green in the postseason. And I don’t think anyone’s game matches up to what Warren Central brings. 
 

I think Buttry will win Mr. Basketball regardless of the results now. He certainly deserves it. 

My understanding is Mr Basketball voting deadline is Friday of this week.

Rather early in my opinion.  Rumor was Ben Johnson may not have won it if the vote was after the Sweet 16 last year.  The Highlands kid, Sam Vinson, led his team on a heck of a run.  Sam might have won the vote.

Very impressed with the poise and toughness of a very young Bowling Green team.  The 3 headed monster of MJ Wardlow, Deuce Bailey, and Trevy Barber will be a nightmare for 4th region teams the next 3 years. The only blemish on the night was the post game antics of Greenwood coach Will McCoy.  He's done a fine job with the Gators this season, but he let his emotions get the best of him last night.  Pulling his hand away from Buttry in the handshake line and talking trash to him throughout the game - just not what you want to see from a grown man. You can't dog cuss a 17 year old kid and then preach about class in the news paper, just doesn't fly.  Seeing as this was his only real shot to make a state tournament, I can understand why he would be disappointed to lose in the first round with 7 seniors against a team that plays 3 sophomores, a freshman, and an 8th grader a lot of minutes.  But he's a young coach that still has many tough lessons to learn and hopefully he will learn from this one. 

Well I don’t believe McCoy was doing that. I’d have to have proof. I do know Buttry acted a little bad throughout the game. He doesn’t need to do that stuff. He’s a stud on the court.  Fans don’t need to see flexing after his makes, or his stares at the opposing bench and fans. I hope emotions were getting the best of him (hopefully he doesn’t normally do that stuff). 
Back to the game. The 1st 4 minutes beat Gwood. It was catch up the rest of the way. BG answered every run that was made. Buttery got the ball late and hit his free throws.  They were the better team.

I can’t provide proof, but I can tell you the postgame thing - I’ve heard that from several sources. The Sporting Times video feed doesn’t follow McCoy all the way through the line, but does pan slightly to the left in time to catch him exiting it. And he’s turning back towards someone and saying something pretty angrily. Not much longer, and Buttry comes into view of the camera in the handshake line. So if it wasn’t Buttry he was yelling something at, it sure was someone in his general direction. 
 

McCoy is still relatively young, and will continue to learn the craft and as importantly, how to channel emotions in certain ways. I have been impressed with his coaching, but there’s no denying he’s pretty intense and demonstrative. 
 

As for Buttry, those two adjectives can describe him as well. He plays with a chip on his shoulder, and I’d say that persona is likely a necessity for him to play his game. Always stays hungry and wanting to prove doubters wrong. There’s no doubt he straddles the line between confident and cocky. But I will say this too - he takes a lot of abuse from fans online and in person. I can’t promise that if I were hearing the overrated chants and much worse that I wouldn’t be pretty vocal and demonstrative when I stuck it to the other team. And I absolutely believe there were some Greenwood players more interested in him than the win. Greenwood made the mistake of taking their eye off of the prize. 

No  opposing coach should be talking to a player on an opposing team during a game! Any doubters need to ask Greenwood’s Coach what he said to Buttry in first quarter and what the Coach told Buttry to use to calm down! The Coach used every tactic available to try and get in Buttry’s head and Buttry ended up getting in the Coach’s head!

He most certainly did and completely embarrassed himself. Again, we are talking about letting a teenager push you to that point as an adult. Be the adult in the situation. Was just very disappointing and even more so disappointing to see the Greenwood school and team social media profiles pointing to "class" and "character" after the game when their own coach was the person in the gym with the least of it.  Here is Will McCoy's lone quote in the newspaper after the game: “I’m proud of my kids for always representing the program with class". No congratulations, no humility, no respect for the opponent.  He just came off as the sorest of losers, and he really set himself up for it.  He was recorded on a post game interview a week ago stating he was going to save his goodbyes to his seniors for a locker room in Rupp arena.  That video made the rounds and well, that's all the fuel teams like BG and WC need. BG dominated from the opening tip and he simply lost control. Like I said, I think he's a fine coach and hopefully has learned his lesson.
