AverageJoesGym
Or maybe your counting the women's basketball titles or Justin Gatlin's steroid times. But you can't be counting consensus football national titles because 6 just ain't true.
Ram
You must be counting the Knoxville News Sentinel Poll. According to the NCAA Tennessee was National Champs in 1951 and 1998. Caz Walker's Food Store's/Wampler's National Champs only counts in Tennessee. Look it up. If you want to count every team that claimed a title, UK claimed a share in 51 also. National Champions: 1998, 1967, 1951, 1950, 1940,1938 (the only two in dispute are: 1967 and 1940 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ncaa_division_I-A_national_football_championship#by_year SEC Champions: 1998, 1997, 1990, 1989, 1985, 1969, 1967, 1956, 1951, 1946, 1940, 1939, 1938

Here's a link to the ncaa's website listing the national champs. As you'll see the only one NOT in dispute was 1998, even then Sagarin had Ohio St. http://www.ncaa.org/champadmin/ia_football_past_champs.html

That anyone would label Oklahoma #1 in 2003, or USC in 02, or OSU in 98......

mobaar
Wow, did that one take all the fight out of you? UT hasn't been the real champs nearly that much, I guess you noticed. 1998 - BCS champs. 1967 - Litkenhous. Give this one to USC 1965 - Sagarin. Give this to Oklahoma. 1951 - AP, Litkenhous, API, Williamson. UT keeps this one. 1950 - Billingsley, DeVold, Dunkel, Football Research, National Championship Foundation. UT keeps this one as well. 1940 - Dunkel, Williamson. Give this to Minnesota 1938 - Billingsley, Boand, Dunkel, Football Research, Houlgate, Litkenhous, Poling, Sagarin. UT keeps this one too. So thats at least 4 you have to give to UT.

Take the fight out of me, come on. I am a UT fan living in KY, it will take more than that. But, seriously until there is a play-off system noone can say who the real national champion is. Who won in 1997 Michigan or Nebraska, I bet they both claim it. Who won in 1993 Auburn, Florida St, Nebraska, Notre Dame; I bet they all claim it. Ram
Honestly, My son is the UT fan. I really don't know how I raised a UT fan, but he has wanted to play football for UT since he was five years old. So if your son is a UT fan, than you are a UT fan. He will only be 11 once, so now I am a UT fan.
