UK Football Recruiting 2007

Featured Replies

I've heard alot of positives about the '07 recruiting class, but, then I read somewhere where UK was ranked 11th out of 12 teams in the SEC, so, it got me wondering. Just how good is this upcoming class? Who are some of the top players to look out for? Do they have any immediate impact players coming in? What red shirts do they have that'll step in and contribute? Any input would be appreciated...

^ I would wait until signing day...yesterday's game helped, as will the support of Brook's by the university....all the rankings and such right now, are without any signatures just yet.

I think you will see more results from the bowl victory in next year's class, because by the time we won the MCB we had pretty much all of our spots filled up.

I asked this question earlier about the effects of the bowl win on potential signees. Are the Cats in on any 4 or 5 star recruits that this win might sway?

Who knows when it comes to college recruiting.

The only kid I saw that UK had a shot at was a WR from the College of the Canyons, 4 star propsect.

UK is finally at their full allotment of scholarships and can now focus on various needs, unlike the last few years where they were just looking for able bodied players.

The USC's, LSU's and Florida's of the world are going to get their share of 4 and 5 star players, but savvy recruiters can find kids and then coach them up.

Sometimes even rankings are skewed because of what camps players attend, and sometimes rankings can be affected by where kids verbal to.

For example, John Logan from Lex Cath was a 4-star recruit and hasn't done squat. Wesley Woodyard was a 2 star recruit that U has mold into an all-SEC linebacker.

Heck the DT from Georgia that UK has a soft verbal from was dropped 50 spots after verballing to UK.

Finding kids and putting them into proper positions are key for programs outside of the UM, LSU's of the world.

Louisville has done well with finding kids and coaching them up like Harry Douglass and the Russell kid...both were two star players that have blossomed.

UK had a solid class last year...top 35ish and still was ranked in the bottom tird of the conference.

I think next years class will have some higher rated players according to the recruiting services, and then if we go to another bowl game next year and show how improved the program really is 2009 will be a bigger class with higher rated players.

UK's '07 recruiting class ranking in the SEC is decieving. An analyst said that the kids coming in that are 2 or 3 star prospects can be 4 star prospects. For an example, to my knowledge, can't remember the name, UK supposedly has recruited a 2/3 star safety. He has the frame of Linebacker and if he can hit the weight room and put on some weight, he could be a 4 star prospect. See my point?

Agreed. Recruiting rankings are decieving period.. There is no way that these so called experts get to see even half of the kids they rank actually play a game. I've also seen 2 star kids jump to 4 stars just because a big time school offered them a scholly. It's nearly impossible to rank football recruiting classes with any kind of accuracy. Even more so than it is in college basketball.

There is word that Victor Anderson may be leaning towards UK now.

That is a 4-star RB.

^ I imagine..he won't play RB at UL, so I would say they are out....he also is probably realizing that RB won't likely be in his future at WVU...UK would be a great fit for him, and at least it will be easy for me to continue not rooting for him

LOL

UK has some good backs coming in already in Allen and Goode, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

The problem is Demetrius Goode is supposed to be a very good RB as well. Also, Alfonso Smith (who is still behind Rafael Little & Tony Dixon) is also another serviceable back.

Is Goode going to be academically eligible?

What about DJ Stafford? Anyone know anything about this guy? I see he is supposedly the #2 DT in the country. Sounds like an immediate impact type guy, even if he just platoons with someone.

The word on Goode is that he is not a "done-deal" yet. Anyone heard anything on this?
