St. Patrick 72 Augusta 67

Featured Replies

Augusta dug themselves a huge hole in the first half trailing 38-20 at the break. But they showed tremendous heart and intensity in the 2nd half and took their first lead of the game with less than 2 minutes to go but couldn't hold on. Credit Augusta for the comeback but credit St. Patrick as well for holding the Panthers off. Saints' Chris Owens led all scorers with 27 points and Dustin Staggs led Augusta with 26. Staggs probably played the best game of his career. Augusta plays Betsy Layne at 4:45 tomorrow and St. Patrick plays the loser of tonight's Bracken County/Deming game at 6:30.

This was a good game for St.patrick in the first half as they were rolling, scoring at will. But credit their defense for the first half lead they were getting steals that lead to transition baskets and led 9-0 until around the 4 minute mark before augusta even got on the board. Although they allowed augusta right back into the game and had to fight out a tough one to get the w.

Saints had a 22 Point lead, Why force 3 point shots when you are ahead, One break here or there late in the game and they were in trouble.Im confussed about the double foul, One referee calls a Charge and other calls a block, Thats just not right to pentalize 2 people on one play. Called a double foul.. IF someone knows the reason for this call please inform me...

There was no reason for it. I watched two games called by these refs and they were terrible in both games. Not useing that as an reason for the loss. I think the one that called the block was in better position to make the call.

I don't really know why it was called a double foul but IMO each saw something that made them make the decision to call what they did so they met in the middle I guess. Personally I think the official under the basket had a clearer view and should have overruled but that didn't happen.

It should be a call like softball. He should be safe or out, There is no way to call a Double foul in that situation, Just away of getting out of a badly made call.Augusta fought back and I commend Coach Robin Kelch for making that great comeback,Good coaching Robin...I watch him coach and with the talent he has had is just a good a coach you will find..A coach is only as good as his players...Good luck Robin

Augusta struggled in most of the first half just trying to find a line up that could make it down the floor and not turn the ball over. They did finally find one in the 2nd quarter. Dustin Staggs played one heck of a game and to me has been the most consistent player on this team so far. Not only did he score 26 points and shot 73% but he pulled down the boards.

The one thing about this game I did not understand is why Mofford sat the 2nd half. St. Pat seemed to score at will in the paint.

Augusta's remaining scoring went

Groves 16, J. White 9, Hardymon 9, S.White 3, Hamilton 2, Cummins 2

Chris Owens and Nick Anderson were just to much for the Panthers tonight. Staggs had very impressive game for Augusta. Hardymon was very quiet tonight:sleep:. Looks to me as Owens and Anderson go so do the Saints. Not a very deep team. But I still don't know how Lloyd beat both of these teams the previous two nights.

How many turnovers in the 1st half alone? I like a fastbreaking offense but you have to take what a defense gives. Unwise decisions and forcing the ball when it's just not there rarely leads to points and is the very reason you see so many coaches eating Rolaids. Great game by D.Staggs though. A little more balance in the scoring and the Panthers will give a lot of teams fits. Great comeback to make it close game, a lesser team would have just checked out when they went down by 20.

3:00 Nicholas County vs. Bellevue

4:45 Augusta vs. Betsy Layne

6:30 St. Patrick vs. Deming

8:15 Bracken County vs. Lloyd

Englert had 10 points in this game and played really well

Work has kept me away from the first few games but I'm going tonight, St. Pat/Deming game.

Hope to see some BGP'ers there.:thumb:

17 in the half 12 in the 1st quarter alone. Only 4 in the second half. Thats what the paper said today. Was impressive to see the Panthers come back. But should never have got in the hole to begin with.
