Russell deserves credit for a good win. As far as the location, play a Louisville team in Louisville is a difficult proposition. They are in their beds, eating normal food and in familiar enviroments. Believe me it is very difficult to spend night after night in a hotel and eating buffets over and over again.

 

However, a win is a win and this is an impressive margin for Russell.

Russell was led by Vanhoose with 25 points 7 rebs, Gill with 15 pts and 8 rebs, Robinson 12 and 3 steals. Russell won by 16 with 27 Turnovers (Vanhoose and Blair w/17) because L'ville pressed the entire game.

Russell got behind early but Dodd took 3 quick timeouts to get Russell settled down and Robinson set the tempo with early steals and transition baskets. As for Russell's defense, it looked like they were in a zone most of the game with good rebounding (44-39) and pressured most of L'ville's shots.

This was a very athletic L'ville team that Russell "team ball" beat.

Very good win for Russell. I agree with another poster that said that Russell has not peaked yet at all. 'IF" they can stay focused and wok hard they are capble of some big things. JMO

Gotta be able to win in neutal sites and on the road to be considered a good team.

zone after those first two timeouts. Central was never able to get the three

pointers going and it sounded like Russell was tough on interior defense. (Due

to both execution and relative size.)

Central was in the game in the first half only. Van Hoose is a stud of a player but Central is very young with only one senior on the team, and in the second half looked like a young team. #54 Harvey, not much of a basketball player but at 6'5' and 300lbs, oh my.........he does fill up the lane. Russell should have their hands full tomorrow playing Mason Co at 6:30pm in gym #1.....

Central is not that young. They have several holdbacks and the sophs are going on 17 years old.

Excellent call! Against the E-Town 1-3-1 there were so many gaps in that zone it let the shooters spot up from the wings and if they came out they would drive and drop it to the block. A match-up zone prevents both from happening.

Playing Louisville Central in Louisville is a little different then playing them in Lexington.

 

Not trying to take anything away from Russell. I wish them luck tomorrow night against Mason County.

I'm well aware of the circumstances of both games ... I saw both of them.

 

Based on what I've seen, from one game each against a common opponent, I would give Russell a bit of an edge.

Yes.

 

 

He is from Russell and lived in Louiville for 1 year where he went to ST. X. His family moved back to Russell before this school year. 6'4 and 320 if I had to guess. And a very good football player.
