Lloyd Memorial's Jake Davidson just set a new state meet record in pole vault. He broke the old record by just shy of ELEVEN inches! Jake's new record is 15-06.00...the old record was 14-07.25.

Jake also won the 1A pole vault as a freshman and sophomore. The meet was cancelled last year due to COVID-19.

I've gotta think that fella is going to find his way onto a track team in college somewhere.

Krista Perry (Morgan Co.) lowered the Class A record by 0.11 sec. in the 100m Hurdles. It's her second straight (2019) title in the event.

The Lady Cougar senior also won the 300m Hurdles today, placed second in the Long Jump, and fourth in the 100m Dash.

Bishop Brossart wins the 2021 Kentucky Class A Girls State Championship. Congratulations to the Lady 'Stangs! 

It's the sixth title for Brossart. Congrats to Coach Dave Schuh and his staff.

Bishop Brossart is going to have an extraordinary Cross Country team this fall. Coach Tony Harden has everyone returning from the 2020 team.

47 of Brossart's 87 points today came from the 800m, 1600m, 3200m, and 4x800m Relay events.

Actually it is their seventh Class 1A State Track Championship.  They won six straight under Coach Dave Schuh from 1997 through 2002, and now one here in 2021.

Really happy for Dave Schuh and his team!!!

An exciting finish in the boys meet, as Louisville Holy Cross won it's second straight title. Congratulations to the Cougars and Coach Dillard!

Five teams were bunched together heading into the penultimate running event, the 3200m run, and Ft. Knox held a narrow lead. Holy Cross iced the meet, as DK Schneiders and Josh Meiman scored a net 15 points in the 3200m. Ft. Knox would score in niether event. Bishop Brossart won the final event, the 4x400m Relay, to account for the final two point margin.

It's not surprising that a Northern Kentucky (Region 4) girls team won the Class A state meet this year. The competition there is exceptional.

Six area schools have won a team title - Beechwood (1), Bellevue (2), Bishop Brossart (7), Dayton (2), Newport Central Catholic (3), and St. Henry (11). 

The first Class A Girls state meet was held in 1970. From 1984 (Bellevue) through 2021 (Bishop Brossart), Region 4 schools have "won it all" 26 times. The pace really picked up in from 1992 (Dayton) onward, with NKY capturing 24 of the last 29 championships.

• Glasgow's Jesse Stuart is, in my opinion, the greatest Track & Field athlete to come out of Kentucky. No one else has had more success on combined high school, collegiate, or worldwide stages than Jesse; not Bobby Curtis from St. Xavier, nor Jim Green of Eminence; it's Jesse Stuart from Glasgow - hands down.

Hudson from Scott County had a chance to get that shot put record in 2019 but he battled injury throughout his senior year. I believe Hudson had a career best over 65'. He was within striking distance.

High Jump - 5'-10.25" Kelly Bowman, Berea 2000

Long Jump - 20'-4" Maxine Graham, Fleming County 1975

Graham's record year , like Stuart's above, is "bolded" because it's the oldest girls record in any class still on the books. Her record, set as a junior, has got legs - not that Kentucky hasn't seen other great jumpers, but Maxine's 20'-4" was a National High School Record when she set it.
