WYMT All-Mountain Team Show

Featured Replies

Somerset and Harlin had better O lines than Lynn Camp. Size is not everything. Deaton and Cole did not put up those numbers without somebody blocking. I saw all 3 teams at least twice. It was not close. I do appreciate WYMT taking the time to honor these kids.

:thumb: I completely agree, this was a major cop out. Picking O-line as a unit and defense as a unit a lot of really good and deserving kids got dissed.

I also agree. Those guys NEED the recognition. They don't get very much as is and this is the only time they do. Now WYMT gives recognition to one unit. I DO NOT AGREE. :fight: WYMT needs to change it. :irked: Everything else looks good. :thumb:

I agree. To pick linemen as a team sends the message that they are not as important and the other positions (I do not use the term "skill positions").

Football is a team sport and the linemen do just as much work as the other positions. This is one of the very few times that linemen (if you played football you now they are truly skilled) get some individual recognition, and this just took that away from them.

Sad message.

I hate to bump this thread back to the top. However, I was looking through and noticed some of the comments made about WYMT. I think they did a wonderful job in their selections. To be honest, I don't think there was anyone in Harlan good enough to be placed on there this season. Cawood's Mikey White may have gotten a break. I'm not saying there was no talent in Harlan, but there was just more talent elsewhere. A_DRAGON2, I'm sure you have ties to the Harlan High School football team. You may even be a player. In my opinion, Blake James isn't a 2nd team All-State lineman. I have played against some of the better lineman in the last 5 years in Kentucky. I played against them at camps, and some on the field. Some of these great players, didn't make the All-State team. With all due respect, Mr. James would not have competed with a lot of those guys. I know he is a good player, and I give him that, but not second team, and not even All-Mountain. Sorry.

Everyone that complained about the "poor" job WYMT did, how would you like if they decided to not do an All-Mountain team after next season? If your kids are true football players, accolades are of no concern to them. They had the top twenty defensive players. A first and second defensive team would be 22 players. Basically all WYMT did was cut out the punter. Most punters have other primary positions anyway. Keep complaints to yourself and be thankful they took the time to consider your son for their awards.

I agree with on of the above poster when I say hats off to WYMT, Brian Milam and Brandon Hensley for a job well done.

I have resisted further comment, but what the heck, I'll say it. Harlan had 2-3 players on defense who could have easily been on the list as well as anyone, and maybe someone on offense. The same could be said for others I'm sure. My gripe isn't WYMT doing a poor job, they don't. Their coverage is excellent. They just simply shouldn't as I said before, coaches do it, radio/paper guys do it. They just simply ignore individual linemen. I know couple juniors on Harlan's team, who whipped some of the "top" O line folks in this and other lists.

A lot of bashing on WYMT.

You guys really don't appreciate a good thing.

Name another TV station that puts as much time and effort into High School sports.

Not shane on WYMT. Shame on ALL OF YOU that bashed a TV station for giving any thought about these kids.

You guys stated that it was a lazy show... give me a break. On the list, there is like 50 plus kids from 43 teams that WYMT covers.

WLEX, WTVQ, WKYT.... do any of them put together a show like this.... NO, because it's probably too hard!!!

Hats off to WYMT!!!

Hold on now....Why would WYMT do this???? Ratings!! And I think they GET paid for those and I would venture to guess the High School Football recap (Sports OverTime) is one of their most viewed programs of the fall.

My question is, why would anyone make public an "ALL" team if you WILL not include individules at all positions on "O" and "D". Just doesn't seem fair to those big horses that give just as much effort as the small skill guys. Heck the small skill guys are the ones with their names in the paper all year long. JMO;) Maybe we ALL could find some common ground by saying the "All WYMT Team" could be better:confused:

Did you even watch the show???

WYMT mentioned Aaron Warren (Belfry), Bobby Burton (Belfry), Casey Allen (Breathitt Co.), Brad Durham (Rockcastle Co.), and John Johnson (Shelby Valley) as the top O-Linemen.

That looks like 5 to me.

Realize that when all of you make your comments, you are not bashing WYMT, you are bashing the kids that they selected. The names mentioned were deserving. If you can not handle that, you do not need to be involved in sports. Accolades are not important, wins are.

DRAGONPAPPY:

Seriously, hang it up. This thread probably needs closed because you are envious of other deserving kids. I'm sorry, but all the talent in the mountains does not rest in Harlan Co. I am from Harlan myself, and totally disagree with you. Swallow your pride, and take it. Your kids didn't make it, case closed.

Seriously CBP, I have said nothing about any other kids. You obviously have another agenda other than my posts. I am not bashing YMT either, just that in general, Linemen get overlooked. If you were a lineman, you might understand. If you are, I'm on your side. Just trying to make the point that these guys don't get the pub they deserve. I'm still against anyone picking a whole "team" because its expediant. Why don't they pick a whole Offense? You know why, because they always get all the pub. Now guess what? You need to get a grip. I'll express my opinion without getting personal, now you need to learn to also. Again, and to be clear, I'm not bashing anyone, but kids who are deserving get left out when folks make "lists" to honor certain catergories of players. Why can't we all get along? Geez Louise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Um NO!!

I have never said anything about any kid named... Just that the big guys didn't have the same accolades which another poster has found and I guess that poster can give us the 5 Top "Offensive" linemen for WYMT.

But I would challege anyone to not put at least one Johnson Central name on that list on both sides of the line:walk:

I was a linemane on both sides of the ball. I am all for lineman getting attention. We are the workers. We make the game go. If the lineman aren't good, the team isn't good. I agree with you on that. However, I feel that you had a personal agenda. That's it. I felt that you were angry the Harlan lineman didn't get on there. FullCount said that there were lineman that were mentioned on the program, and he is very close to the station. I know that if I were one of those lineman mentioned, I would be a little upset that people were arguing about my selection. I just think it is unfair to the kids that made the team. Honestly, I couldn't care less about it. I just don't want to see others put down. I know you didn't directly do that, but it could be viewed that way. There is noting personal here. I was just simply taking sides the WYMT, and the kids on the squad.

As I said, lineman do not get the publicity, but there were names mentioned. If there were names mentioned, plus a unit, that is pretty good. Lineman do play as a unit anyway. If I have the best pulling guard in the state, but the opposite tackle doesn't do his job, his pulling is to none effect.

I don't know much about Johnson Central, but from what I saw this past season, someone on their team deserved respect other than the running back. They had a great team.

:thumb: Hey, much more thoughtful post. To set the record straight, if I seemed to put anyone down, I apologize, however it was never my meaning. I still maintain, it would be better to name individual linemen rather than a whole unit, (but your arguement was compelling).
