March 27, 20215 yr Author He played at Flaget HS in Louisville and was an all-american at University of Kentucky. He also coached under Bear Bryant at University of Alabama winning 3 national titles.
March 27, 20215 yr He brought UL football from the hinterlands to national recognition. Upon taking the UL job, he proclaimed bombastically (as was his want) that UL is "......on course for a national championship. The only variable is time." (My version of the quote may not be 100% accurate but you get the idea.). When he said that a lot of people around town were wondering what he was smoking in that pipe. But he got the UL faithful to think big and aspire to greater things.
