Lincoln County 62 Boyle County 57 (45th District Championship)

Featured Replies

Lincoln Co. has won 3 straight 45th District Championships, and 7 out of 8.  Side note- I seen something tonight I’ve never seen in my time watching basketball.  Two taunting technical fouls after made 3s against Boyle Co.  in a short span in second half.  Interested to know if Rebelstat could fill in the reasoning.  Looked minimal on TV.  Nevertheless, the Patriots played solid defense and made big FTS down the stretch.  I could see a 4th matchup between these two teams.

Mild upset?

Maybe. Lincoln has been really good down the stretch winning eight of their last nine coming into tonight. Plus Jeff Jackson’s teams always play well in the district tournament.

I don’t see it that way with the history in this rivalry.  Lincoln’s zone has a way to stall an offense.

After the last few years of Bodner in the center of the zone it was definitely interesting to see Jaxon Smith in the middle. It was quite effective.

Lincoln rebounded the ball better than in previous meetings.  I seen a concerted effort to keep the stronger Boyle players off the glass.

Well the first one I think should’ve been a technical but the one on Webb should not have been. Webb turned to the crowd and said let’s go and the Lincoln player ran in front of him.  Heard this from a coach from Centre College. He said that that was a really bad call.  Those two technical really stopped Boyle’s momentum. I think the the one on Webb was after a 3 that cut the lead to 2.  The second and third quarters hurt Boyle, they only scored 10 points from the beginning of the second quarter to mid way of the third.  Lincoln went on to score 24 points in that span.

Watched the game on TV and the MVP of the 45th District Tournament is Tremaine Alcorn. Kid played the best he's played all year. He's the most important player on Lincoln County's team. When he plays well, Lincoln is hard to beat. He hit clutch free throws against Danville and again tonight.

I think the adults need to step back and realize there are a ton of emotions in a championship game (especially when these kids have had to play without fans all year long).  Obviously, I couldn't know if there was language used or not but it seem fairly mild action wise.  These particular refs love to interject themselves into the action though.  I don't think the outcome would've changed, but it definitely stifled momentum.
