The Calvary Christian Cougars have got our number, and have taken great pleasure in knocking off ourselves and Scott in each of the past three years in district seeding competition.

Prior to February of 2019 Calvary had never beaten Brossart in a varsity basketball game.  Since them they have now defeated us twice and lost to us in overtime in last season's 10th Region All "A" Classic Tournament.  It is especially amazing this year since they are being led by Luke Ruwe, Ethan Mulling, and Logan Hinkle, three players who averaged 2.6, 1.9, and 1.4 points per game respectively a year ago.  This team had every right to re-assume their roles as the pre-Orlando Donaldson, 37th District doormats, yet have lost to Scott by merely five points (67-62) and now defeated Brossart 50-47, in winning their 18th game of the season.  They lost narrowly to Ludlow in the finals of the NKAC DivIII Tournament this past weekend..

The Cougars laid an 18-11 first quarter on the Mustangs, as Ethan Muling strung five field-goals together.  Brossart narrowed the gap to 28-25 at the half.  We experienced six lead changes and a piar of ties in the third quarter when Calvary re-established a five point lead again at 40-35 heading into the fourth quarter, and then persevered 50-47.  As Papa stated, Brossart will take on Scott and Calvary gets Campbell County in the Monday, 37th District Tournament semis at the home of the higher seed.

On the night the Cougars landed eight 3-pointers, on the Mustangs who were blanked from beyond the arc for the first time since December of 2018.  Calvary's Luke Ruwe led all scorers with 22, including six 3s, and Ethan Mulling put up 16.  Brossart's Carson Schirmer countered with 14 and David Govan 11, as the Cougars improve to 18-8 and the Mustangs fall to 12-10 on the season.
