South Laurel 86 Corbin 68

Featured Replies

Too much complaining from Corbin fans on this thread. The fact is the better team won tonight & you can't blame players for "flopping" when they know when they do they get the call. That's called smart play & good coaching. Crawford seems to be a real nice player...Where is he going to college again ????

Well...sir..hes just a soph, I believe? Better team, you could say that, but and Les im putting words in ur mouth lol Corbin can get South. :p

He's just a sophomore. I'm not aware of any decision being made yet.

The regional final will be South/Corbin. I've seen plenty a good Bell teams and they always faulter in the region tourney. I don't think Bell can beat South....if Corbin improves and gets Crawford some help, the Hounds can, but Bell won't and there is no way Cumberland will.

I'll go with a South/Bell final.

Bell has faltered in the regional, but sometimes they don't do it to the finals.

I disagree very much. Proffitt is an excellent passer for South Laurel and can score from to time but I think overall, Crawford is the better player. Defensively in the post and up on backcourt players, knowing when and when not to take shots (somethign Proffitt tends to not discern at times) and gaining entrance to the paint and scoring with his size and speed is something I think Crawford does better than Proffitt. Think of it this way, could Proffitt do the things he does without the players around him??? He makes the team better, but I think if Proffitt was on Corbin's team, he wouldn't look as impressive.

Profitt has more game in that he can shoot reliably from the outside, has a nice mid-range jumper and can go inside, plays defense, handles the ball, and is a great leader on a team with alot of ego. That makes he not only a great player but a great leader too.

Now on that check list Josh Crawford is missing the outside shot, at times his mid-range stuff is suspect, and at times his lateral movement restricts his defense. As he matures he will develop the things missing in his game. You can also get into his head at times which should change as he grows. And he is still better than most players on most of the teams around here.

In reality, it is somewhat unfair to compare the two, but I will take Proffitt everytime. If Crawford was on South Laurel he could have been invisible for the last two years and the third option in the offense this year.

The difference in these two teams is just the depth of SL. They have too much depth for Corbin at this point in the season. If Corbin wants to make a run at SL in the region some kids besides Crawford are going to have to step up their game.

A couple of players on South's bench made some big plays in the game at crucial times. Hamm rebounded very well and got a big bucket on an offensive board and #31 hit a three and scored close to double figures in the game.

I thought that Cashen may have helped in this game due to South being so much more physical and older than Corbin, but he has not made it into the rotation yet and did not play. Corbin seems to be missing that someone like a Josh Ware or Brad lawson who are quick and physical enough to slow down big, penetrating type guards like Profitt.

I thought Madon did a good job of being physical in there last night. I too would like to see Clint play a little more often. I also wish that Campbell would have stuck in it. Those boys don't care whether or not they foul out as long as they can rough house.

Um I think I had a few ...after this game.

I'm not so sure that any of these three teams(Corbin,Bell,Cumberland) couldn't play with if not beat South. All three teams I think are capable and could give South all kinds of problems by the end of the year.Cumberland battled a minor hand injury to Brooks Hogue and sickness to Kyle Simpson and still handled Evarts-even though they aren't a great team-by 20.Cumberland was also coming off an emotional victory over Harlan. So with that I think all three teams can play with South including Cumberland-they play GREAT defense and defense wins championships.

Cumberland has the talent but I think they lack the size in the backcourt to handle South. Believe me there is nothing better than seeing a team I like beat South Laurel and after Corbin, I'm a Cumberland fan. I do think that Desmond could handle either Trey Smith or that St. John kid but backcourt would be the biggest matchup problem due to size only. Although one thing that could work in Cumberland's favor. As you stated, Coach E likes Defense and if you get up tight on Proffit and hound him when he has the ball, it gets in his head and he starts complaining and seemingly gets out of his game.

Everyone keeps referring to Souths' Big 3, Hammonds, Proffitt, and Smith? What about Corbin's Hamlin and Barley? I thought that Hamlin was supposed to be Corbin's go-to-guy this year? Whats going on with that situtation?

Hamlin was never expected to be a go-to player. He has played well running the point this year, but he does not look to score much and splits the time at point with Wilson at about 60/40. Barley missed some time with the stomach flu, but played really well against Knoxville Catholic(game prior to South Laurel) scoring 17 points. He fouled out against South Laurel and got to play 6-7 minutes, but he will more than likely avg. double figures in scoring before the year is done.

Lets all be very honest Ty Proffitt is the best player in the region he does some everything for the top team in the mountains and he is a good kid. Not only tallented but a very hard worker when other kids wanted to be stars Tye was in the gym working and playing against stronger competition to make him better. Jordan Hammomds is very close to Tye, he is the most underraqted player in the state and has improved by working his can off. Josh Crawford is the best team player in the 13th region and the most tallented player that has played in a long time as far as being unselfish. Tye and Jordan are seniors and older but what to consider is what Josh Crawfrod and Madison Jolhnson will become they have the tallent and work ethic to become a power like SL has been the last two seasons. All of you who truly now bsketball know that SL/Corbin are the two bets teams in the region Bell and Cumberland are both good but with Corbin starting the underclassmen a loss at Bell maybe the best thing that ever happened to them.

There is so much talk about Souths' Hammonds, Profitt, and Smith, what about Barley and Hamlin for Corbin? I thought Hamlin was suppossed to be Corbins' go-to-guy this year? What's with that situation?

South must be back on track.
