So Dunbar lost their game against West Jessamine on Friday when West Jess had to go into COVID protocol.

Just saw this tweet from Dunbar HC Wes Johnson.

No obvious candidates share the same open date (October 1) at Dunbar. It seems like a quick turnaround to get a game this weekend. Maybe something out of state on October 1? Or perhaps someone else is rearranging a schedule to free up a matching date? Lots of potential with this...

In addition to teams being willing and able to scramble their schedule around for the sake of another team, the other thing to consider is that when Team X goes into quarantine, their opponent Team Y is officially awarded a win and Team X receives a forfeit loss - which counts as one of the ten games permitted on their schedule. However, if the non-quarantining opponent Team Y is able to scramble and find a different team to play, then there is no forfeit, and the original game between Team X and Team Y is completely erased. Logically, I would think that means the quarantining Team X is free to schedule a different game using their bye week, right?

So....in that case:

- Greenup County is quarantining. Their original opponent Fleming County has since managed to schedule another game. That means Greenup County is free to schedule a game in their original bye week: Oct 1.

- Warren Central is quarantining. Their original opponent Bullitt Central has since managed to schedule another game. That means Warren Central is free to schedule a game in their original bye week: Sep 3.

- Jackson County is quarantining. Their original opponent McCreary Central has since managed to schedule another game. That means Jackson County is free to schedule a game in their original bye week: Oct 8.

Can Team Y (for the sake of discussion, Murray) give back their forfeit win over Team X (Crittenden County) if they find a tenth game on their bye week later in the season?

I haven't read anything specific about that or heard from anyone...but my assumption would be yes.

Seeing as we've been through an entire year of scrambling to schedule sports around COVID, I would think the KHSAA has to have an "official ruling" on that somewhere. I don't know what that official ruling is...but surely someone has to have asked that of the KHSAA already?
