Class 4A

This week presented two marquee matchups (on paper) of ranked teams, but the ultimate results were anything but competitive.  For the second consecutive year, Boyle County completely dominated their rival Lexington Catholic, gaining the running clock and posting their first shutout of the season in a 40-0 win. The Rebels held LexCath to just 155 yards of offense.  Corbin aced their test against Knox Central, jumping out to a 7-0 lead just two minutes into the game, and running off the first 34 points in their 34-7 win.  The Redhounds emphatically made their case to crack the monopoly of the top four teams.  None of the other Top Ten teams in action were challenged, with Johnson Central, Central, and Wayne County winning by an average of 28 points.  The game to circle in the coming week is the return to the field for Hopkinsville, taking on district rival Logan County in their first action since COVID sidelined their season following a loss to Calloway County.  Wayne County will look to clear Knox Central while Corbin will attempt to do the same with Lincoln County to set up a likely battle for the #1 seed on October 23rd.

After reviewing the opponents of both Boyle and JC and their opponents records, it looks like Boyle has the better resume as of now. Bell County and Simon Kenton were the big wins that moved JC over Boyle but neither of those teams have shown too much so far.

There is absolutely nothing that would put Boyle over JC at this point.  Nothing.

Boyle and JC both look elite to me.

 Sure there is. The worst team Boyle has played so far is as good or better than the best team Johnson Central has played so far. Boyle's strength of schedule is much better than JC's.
