2020 Northern Kentucky Power Rankings: Halfway Through

Featured Replies

With the exception of Lloyd Memorial, who entered the football season late and has only played two games thus far, all of the teams around northern Kentucky have played at least three games - most have played four. Based on the outcomes thus far this season, here's where I would lay things out in terms of power rankings around the region:

1.) 5A Covington Catholic (4-0)
2.) 6A Dixie Heights (2-2)
3.) 2A Beechwood (2-2)
4.) 6A Simon Kenton (2-2)
5.) 5A Highlands (2-2)
6.) 6A Campbell County (2-2)
7.) 5A Conner (2-1)
8.) 6A Ryle (1-3)
9.) 1A Newport Central Catholic (3-0)
10.) 4A Holmes (2-2)
11.) 2A Lloyd Memorial (2-0)
12.) 2A Newport (2-2)
13.) 5A Boone County (1-3)
14.) 5A Cooper (1-3)
15.) 4A Scott (0-3)
16.) 2A Walton-Verona (2-2)
17.) 5A Grant County (2-2)
18.) 2A Carroll County (1-2)
19.) 1A Dayton (4-0)
20.) 1A Ludlow (1-3)
21.) 1A Bishop Brossard (2-2)
22.) 2A Covington Holy Cross (1-3)
23.) 1A Bracken County (1-2)
24.) 3A Pendleton County (2-2)
25.) 2A Gallatin County (2-1)
26.) 1A Bellevue (0-4)
27.) 2A Owen County (0-4)
28.) Trimble County (1-4)

Looks right to me. The difference this year is not much separation between CCH and everyone else in the Top 5.

I agree with you. Putting that list together involved a lot of "well there's this bunch...then that bunch...then that bunch..."

With CovCath and Beechwood each winning multiple titles in recent years, the upper crust of NKY football has been in good shape. But what about everyone else? How do Highlands, Holmes, and Scott compare to the #5, 10, and 15 teams from 10-20 years ago? At a glance, NKY as a whole, seems down. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think it is.

Johnson Central and Boyle County coming to NKY and getting big wins doesn't help perception, but those teams are both arguably top 5 teams in the state. On the other hand Campbell County beat Pikeville and Ryle played Scott County toe to toe for most of that game. Really tough to say about NKY as a whole until we see how the post season plays out.

This list will probably look drastically different as district play continues.

Well I at least had Dixie and Simon Kenton right. ?

My rankings for Campbell/Ryle, Conner/Cooper, Highlands/Boone, and Lloyd/Newport all will be tested tonight.

I think you have Lloyd Memorial and Newport appropriately placed right next to each other. The outcome of that game tonight is anybody's guess. They split their two meetings last year, and both hammered their only common opponent this season.
