You will hear more in the coming weeks and months. Given the current climate due to Corona Virus things may run a little slower than usual. Commonwealth Attorney's office has made public statements regarding the case recently so I'd say this is just the beginning.

 

While I certainly understand the validity HAS to be in question, the Reddit forums on this case are quite a read. Will be interesting to see if the net slueths theories/investigations turn out to be true/chased down by the law.

Paige left her house in Florence to Sept 22 with an acquaintance, Jacob Bumpass, to hang out friends and to go to a party in Covington. At some point that night she sent a Facebook message to her sister that said "Girl call me now, I need to talk to you ASAP." It is unclear how Paige had accessed Facebook because she did not have a phone with her, and her sister did not see the message from Paige until after the fact. Paige's family never saw or heard from her after that.

 

After a missing persons report was filed, Bumpass was sought out for questioning about Paige's whereabouts. When Bumpass was located by police for questioning, he initially ran from them after they identified themselves to him. He was caught, and then eventually allowed police into his home. Covington Police detective Brian Frodge noted in an affidavit filed to obtain permission to search Bumpass' home, car, and vehicle that when he initially caught/questioned Bumpass, Bumpass had started off by admitting to giving Paige alcohol that night and stating that he had dropped her off at 1:00am near her sister's house in Covington at the intersection of 15th Street and Scott Street. Once Bumpass did allow Detective Frodge into his house in Latonia, he had refused to talk. Frodge also mentioned that once inside of the house, he saw what he thought appeared to be dried blood on a sink and a latex glove.

 

After his questioning by police, Bumpass was promptly arrested on Octover 4, 2010 for parole violations from a prior theft conviction that were discovered while he was being questioned - weapons and alcohol both located in his residence. Following his arrest, Bumpass obtained legal defense and from point on he has invoked his 5th Amendment rights and refused completely to talk with the police about Paige's disappearance. He was later released, and then arrested again on parole violations in 2012.

Court documents also state that a that a friend of Jacob Bumpass' brother Caleb had told police he had overheard Jacob asking Caleb to borrow his car, and then that a few days after the police search, he saw Caleb scrubbing down his car, which was uncharacteristic of Caleb who was a "trashy person" by nature.

 

Bumpass' cell phone records, which were obtained in October 2010, show that early in the morning of Sep 23, Bumpass' phone accessed/pinged a cell phone tower on Tanner's Lane in Florence at 1:03am, a few blocks from Paige's home. At 1:32am it pinged from a tower in Wilder, the tower located geographically nearest to Bumpass' home in Latonia. A little bit before 3:00am his phone pinged on a tower in Edgewood. At 4:13am it pinged on a tower on Filager Road in Batavia. At 4:18am it pinged on a tower on Half-Acre Road near the entrance to East Fork Lake State Park in Clermont County, Ohio. At 9:43am the phone was back near the Wilder tower. All on the night Paige Johnson was last seen with Jacob Bumpass.

 

None of that aligns with Bumpass's story to the police: that he dropped Paige off at the corner of 15th and Scott in Covington at about 1:00am on September 23, 2010, which was the night that Paige was last seen.

 

Authorities spent a significant amount of time searching East Fork Lake State Park, even dredging part of the lake. Among others, police have also followed leads indicating that her remains were located in an abandoned cistern on Decoursey Pike in Latonia, and on another site rural southern Kentucky.

 

The police reported this morning that Paige's remains were found in the area of Williamsburg Township in Clermont County. The entrance to East Fork Lake State Park is located in Williamsburg Township, as is roughly 50% of the shoreline of East Fork Lake, itself. Also, the cell phone tower located behind Freeman Enclosure Systems on Half-Acre Road is in Williamsburg Township - that's the cell tower that was pinged by Bumpass' cell phone at 4:18am the night that Paige disappeared.

I just can not understand the incompetence of this. I’d say based on everything that he knew then, he’d have had enough to remove that guy and all occupants to secure the scene and get a search warrant to collect those items.

Don't know that there will be too much going on with this right now given the Corona climate. Not a lot of active investigating going on in terms of in person interviews. At this point though I think it's just a matter of time until an arrest(s) is made.
