Two twenty+ win teams tangle in the opening game of the 8th Region boys' tournament. Simon Kenton and South Oldham did not play in the regular season.

 

I'm not a big fan of the RPI, but, for what it's worth, the RPI is .61722 for South and .60524 for Simon Kenton.

 

Big wins:

South Oldham: #20 LaRue County 78-55, #16 Warren Central 72-68

Simon Kenton: #14 Collins 76-72,

 

Two of the two best shooting teams in the 8th region, and plenty of three point shooters on both. SK's Jeremy Davis has been the premier perimeter shooting in the region this year, hitting 116 threes at over 49%. South Oldham leads the state in made threes as a team, with 330. (team shooting 47.1% beyond the arc)

I like both of these teams. Fun, high-scoring offenses, and they play with a lot of heart. If South moves the ball & finds open shooters, they're tough to beat. Kelly Niece is a well rounded player with a good shot, strong passing skills and he can penetrate the lane. Both teams will want to score a lot. The team that can step up defensively has the best chance here in my opinion.

IMO Trent's team is playing the best D I can remember. Should be a fun game.

I like South Oldham and their seniors in this one, but Simon Kenton did go into Crestwood last year and beat the Dragons.

Hard to pick Trents team, but I have a different feeling about this team. Maybe getting away from the “death matchup” for them (lost to gallatin county the last 3 seasons in the first round) . Should be very entertaining , I’ll take SK 77-70

This looks like a stunningly fun matchup for the fans. These two teams do so many things in a similar fashion - both have two standout shooting guards, both shoot the ball exceedingly well - from the field overall, from three, and at the line - both play a fast-paced style on offense. Both teams will simply outscore you.

 

Don't miss this game if you like high school basketball.
