Who will be the regional champions in 2020?

The Professor had a great idea for a thread in the "Boys Basketball" forum. There are some tight district matchups scheduled this week and I'm late to the party, as usual.

Time's a wastin'. I got mine. "Who ya with?"

R1 Marshall Co.

R2 Henderson Co.

R10 Bishop Brossart

R11 Scott Co.

I'll take Franklin County in the 11th.

In my best Kenny Mayne voice, "2, in the place of dwelling!"

I’ll give my pick with an additional of who I believe will challenge for the respective regions

R1 - Marshall Co. - Calloway Co

R2 - Henderson - MNH

R3 - Apollo - Owensboro Cath

R4 - Barren Co. - Russell Co.

R5 - Bethlehem - Etown with Marion Co being dark horse

R6 - Butler - Mercy

R7 - Sacred Heart - CAL

R8 - Simon Kenton - Anderson Co.

R9 - Ryle - Notre Dame Academy

R10 - GRC - Bishop Brossart

R11 - Scott Co. - Franklin Co

R12 - Casey Co - Mercer Co with Southwestern being a dark horse

R13 - N Laurel - S Laurel

R14 - Owsley Co. - Hazard

R15 - Pikeville - Shelby Valley

R16 - Russell - Ashland

I think this list is pretty good. I will say I think Bullitt East in 6th, 7th will be CAL with the unfortunate things that have happened at SHA, 8th will be Anderson Co and I think the 10th will be GRC again. Brossart has had quite a year but think experience with GRC gives them a slight advantage by single digits.

Can’t argue with any of this. I meant to put Bullitt East as a dark horse. Very capable of winning the region.

Just a few comments about the 14th region where I live. Its a difficult pick. There’s about 6 teams that could win it. Wolfe County has the best record (25-5) and has one of the region’s best players in Hailey Smith. Owsley has a good team too, with a good record of 21-8 but have lost to Wolfe twice, by 6 and 5 points. So my Owsley pick to win the region is a little bit of a bias on my part because it’s my home, lol, but it’s also difficult to beat a team 3 times when they’re as close as these two in talent. Knott is the 3 X defending region champs and have a coach that has been there and done that. Letcher has the advantages of having the tournament on their home court. Hazard and Leslie are also teams that could get on a roll and win the 14th.

The 14th is probably the weakest of all 16 regions but as is sometimes said about playing the lottery, “someone has to win it”. It will probably be one and done for the representative from the 14th but I’d sure like to see my Lady Owls make their first trip to the Big Dance.

How is everyone doing with their picks? I'm out on R3 Apollo, R8 Simon Kenton and R14 Wolfe County.

I've got a David vs. Goliath pick in R10 (soft spot for the 'stangs, not a soft head). Scott County is playing Franklin County now for the R11 title. I picked the Cardinals but I'm good if the "Lady Flyers/Flying Dueces won too. :angrybird2:

Edit: In R6 Butler is down to the wire with Mercy tonight in a semifinal.

Butler just won. Reaching the finals vs the winner of Bullitt East/Bullitt Central.

Really looking forward to Friday’s 5th Region semifinals, especially that E’town-Bardstown rematch. That should be a lot of fun.

I’ve lost one as of today. Missed the 8th region.

Love everyone sleeping on my Camels. Cinderella is alive!

I'll take Franklin County in the 11th.

Good call.
