Rush drummer Neil Peart has died.

Featured Replies

If you know Rush, you know Neil Peart. He was an absolute drumming phenom. One of the most significant drummers in rock and roll history. A lot of people who have listened to Rush's music aren't even aware of how much Neil was doing in the background of the song because his drumming sounds were a constant during the song rather than a tempo-keeping accent.

Peart died today at 67 years old. Brain cancer.

Wow... No Way!

R.I.P. to the greatest drummer of all time.

John Bonham?

John Bonham?

John Bonham was a phenomenal highly influential hard rock power drummer with fantastic grooves, while Neil Peart had a groundbreaking highly original unmatched style of power, precision, and often times jazz tinged intricacy which didn’t merely keep time for a song, but within his extremely complex fills he created actual notes that would move and define a song.

Taking nothing away from Bonham as he was a hugely gifted rock drummer in his own right, but the unique precise intricate style of Peart’s within the progressive rock genre took complex rock drumming to a higher more sophisticated level.

With that said, both were undeniably incredible.

John Bonham?

There's lots of guys who could lay claim to greatest drummer. Rolling Stone has Peart at #4 behind Bonham, Moon and Ginger Baker. Not to mention guys like Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa. The thing the always stood out about Peart was that he was fascinating to watch, surrounded by that giant kit that he played, and that he was just so technically proficient.

I'm a Rush guy so Peart will always be #1 to me. Not taking anything away from Bonham, Moon, Rich or Krupa but Neil Peart was fascinating to watch. To me, the things he did defied what was humanly possible..

The GOAT! RIP Neil.
