Simon Kenton 60 Ryle 33

Final from Union.

Ryle was without Maddie Scherr. Make no mistake Simon will be tough. They had a strong inside and outside game. And the defense was tenacious.

Hope the Crist girl that was injured for Ryle is doing ok.

I spoke to the coaches after the game and Jaden will be fine, getting checked out though. Coach Stowers said in his pregame interview that Simon was going to do what they do. Swarming defense by the Lady Pioneers kept Ryle on their heels to a 27 point win. Both teams returned at least 10 returning players from their State Title and 8th Region runner-up squads. Maddie Scherr was out for Ryle after an injury in the Campbell game.

Our stats are unofficial, but 3 Lady Pioneers in double digits with Serenity Webb and Morgan Stamper each with 12, Mattie Vickers had 10. For Ryle, Abby Holtman led the Lady Raiders with 9, Brie Crittenden added 7. We had Ryle going 7/19 from the FT line and only 1 3 point shot made. The Lady Raiders only hit double digit scoring in the second quarter with 10 points.

This was an exposure event for Ryle as they got exposed.. Simon looked good with Maddie this would have been a much better game obviously but still a win for SK in my opinion. We will see if SK is for real as they have Sacred Heart and GRC up next.. The 8th region is pretty strong at the top with SK Anderson and Walton. Hopefully Ryle will be back to 100% soon..

No player is a 30 point difference.

Sk is loaded with seniors and veteran players. Size and skill. This will be a fun year for them. This could be best finish at the Sweet Sixteen ever for the Lady Pioneers.

Possibly Stowers final hoorah?

Maddie Scherr is easily a 30 pt difference. Remember she is a thief! I believe she’s the steals and assist leader at Ryle if i’m not mistaken. She’s easily a 15 pt scorer, several more pts could be added to Crittenden and Douthit just because of her setting them up not to mention her defense. She definitely would’ve been a difference defensively. I could see her being 30pts difference easily. If she plays last night thats a good game.

Bottom line, is Maddie Scherr ok? I hope this is a minor set back, will Maddie be back to action tomorrow, the game is better when she is playing!

Minor setback. Really don’t think she’ll play tomorrow but another week maybe.

This whole statement is laughable.

Not sure what you mean. I definitely do not think Scherr is laughable when it comes to impacting a game. I do think she’s the best player in ky. Would she have made a 30pt difference? No player makes that big a difference in my opinion. That was my point. Would the game be closer, of course. But that goes to show how good SK is this year.

I think people outside of playing and coaching can easily dimish the value of one great player. The fact is, in today's game, yes, one great player can make a 30 point different when you factor in production and the psychology of their teammates. And make no mistake, Maddie Scherr is likely the best player in the Commonwealth. And disclaimer... I am not at Ryle fan at all. I just respect and understand top level basketball players.

Not sure what your saying here? And why did you quote me?

SK returns and played basically all their main contributors from last year. The three seniors and Webb. Chelsea Little and Alexis Baker also returned and are contributing now. But after those 6 there is not much that returned to contribute. So “10 returners” means very little in girls basketball. Considering the loss of Schwartz, McGregor and Scherr for this game I’d say Ryle returned even less of their actual contributors. Maybe a Ryle fan can be specific?

I agree with Southerboy, Ryle doesn’t have 10 players returning that played significant minutes. They actually only have 4....Scheer, Douthit, Crittenden and Johnson. They were without 2 of those for the SK game, Scheer and Johnson. SK played a great game and deserved the win. It would have been a much better game if Ryle had Scheer and Johnson available.

Well..we can agree that this game was an exposure event. News Flash..Ryle is not the same team without the best player in the state. Maddie takes over games and she would have this one. Hope they get to play again..then you will see what the difference is.

Ok, Thanks for the info.
