Wouldn’t a good solution be to play all playoff games past the 2nd round on a neutral site? There are plenty of good venues that could host.

Out of state opponents are discounted heavily by the RPI system. Given that many KY teams play out of state opponents, the MaxPreps system would be much fairer to those teams. Rumor is that some feared teams running up the score if that system is used. Fact is, the MaxPreps system caps all wins at 35 points, so it would do you no good to run up the score. It also would give good value to be competitive and losing against a superior opponent. The RPI values winning, no matter the strength of the opponent.

 

Bottom line, the goal of any "playoff rating system" is to project the best teams a path to the finals. No system is perfect but the RPI seems more flawed that using MaxPreps.

 

Winning on the road is not impossible. Great programs can win no matter the venue. Since 2002, Bowling Green has lost TWO road playoff games. 2010 at Christian County, 2018 at Owensboro. I am certain similar numbers exists at Belfry, Boyle Co, Trinity, etc.

It will be interesting to see how Trinity fares in the semis.

Maybe semi finals would be good for neutral sites.

I think a big key to watch is attendance at the state finals. I believe the KHSAA did this final four RPI seeding to try and get good matchups in the title games and improve attendance at the championship games. If attendance picks up this year at the finals, KHSAA will call the RPI final four seeding a success and it will probably be with us for a while.

I agree and I think it is working out in their favor in all classes except for 3A. In the other 5 classes I think you are getting the 2 best teams in the state matching up in the championship game. 3A I think the best Championship possibility is happening this coming weekend between DeSales and Belfry. But that is kind of fitting considering 3A has been the most wide open and deep class throughout the year so they had the highest number of championship-worthy teams.
