BluegrassPreps 2019 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 9 Edition

The top story line this week reflects the stellar play of our Top 11 squads in the West! All 11 (save the Hopkinsville BYE) won in very convincing fashion (save Glasgow, who played a very worthy District Foe)! But for Spots 12 through 20, most found unfavorable results with 6 of those 9 taking losses, albeit against very sound competition! But some great games and surprise results for us to discuss for sure! So let’s get to it…

Week 9 Western Kentucky Game of the Week:

2A Caldwell County (7-2) 42 at 2A Murray (6-2) 40. One of the best games of the year right here in terms of competitiveness and never giving up! Which describes Former Caldwell County Coach David Barnes to a Tee! Murray came out fired up for Homecoming Night at Ty Holland Stadium and led Caldwell 17-0. But Caldwell rallied and led 35-34 in the 4th Quarter. Caldwell scored again to take a 42-34 lead. But Murray wouldn’t fold either and staged a terrific final drive and scored late in the 4th Quarter. They set up for the 2-point conversion, but Star QB Hunter Utley’s pass was batted down in the end zone ending a whale of ball game! Great effort by both teams! Also, WPSD Local 6 out of Paducah does an awesome job of providing highlights for all things Purchase Area Football and provides highlights for this game and many other WKY games this week. The following is a link to that telecast:

You put together a heck of an article.

20) Allen County-Scottsville (4A) (5-3) – Week 9 Results: Win 27-10 vs 4A District Mate Warren East! Welcome to the Top 20 Patriots! HUGE District Win! First win over Warren East in 3 seasons and as our good friend @DragonFire reports keeps the Patriots alive for hosting their first home playoff game in 7 years! Big Deal! While I don’t have many stats, I know ACS outgained the Raiders by about 40 yards on the night and took advantage of 2 East INTs. Nice work Patriots and congrats to Coach Hood! Next up: vs New 4A District Mate Russell County! Not sure if these teams have ever played before, but seems to be a pretty even matchup to me! Good Luck Patriots!

This will be the 16th meeting between ACS and Russell County. The two were most recently district mates from 2007-2010, and ACS won the last four meetings between the two, including the 2010 playoffs. Russell County leads the series 8-7.

Given the way the tiebreaker is set up, I think ACS should be rooting for Franklin-Simpson on Friday, in addition to themselves. I don't see much of a path to the #1 seed for ACS, so even though they could get themselves into a tie for the district title, I think they'd still be stuck right back in the 2/3 game. Better to take the bird in the hand and just get the 2 seed outright and host the same Raider team they just beat.

I’d say the top 10 is dead on accurate. Good info!

I enjoy reading these articles every week.

If ACS were to get beat and Franklin wins there will be a 3-way tie for 2nd.

Also true.

To me, from looking at the numbers, if there are any tiebreaks, I believe the matchups will be Franklin-Simpson/ACS and Warren East/Russell County. The only question will be who is hosting. I believe Warren East will host their first round game with a win no matter what else happens. Their tiebreakers are stronger than all the other teams, and I do not think that has any realistic path to change.

I think you are correct as it stands right now, if Russell County were able to get a win against LaRue that may be enough to change things up, depending on how other teams fair week 10.

Maroons QB Hayden Reynolds also had 1 rushing TD besides the 6 thru the air, all in the first half. Hightower's 168 rushing yards put him over the 2,000 yard mark for the season.

DFire,

What is your prediction of the Allen County-Scottsville vs Russell County Game?

Anything can happen, but I feel relatively confident in the Patriots to win that one. I believe ACS has played a far better schedule, so while the record can paint a bleak picture, I believe they've been much more battle tested. Plus they're home.
