Conner teacher and football coach accused of inappropriate contact with students

Featured Replies

Matt Rudd is a teacher at the school and is listed as a football coach on the school’s website.

Boone County detectives say he is facing one count of harassment.

Paraphrasing the article students have accused Rudd of being weird, making comments and jokes that were inappropriate, wanting to hook up, telling them he wanted them, and touching/bumping/grazing against students.

NKY teacher on leave after students accused him of inappropriate conduct

I will say that considering the allegations the one count of harassment means all this is very minor in the grand scheme of things.

KRS 525.070 - Harassment

(1) A person is guilty of harassment when, with intent to intimidate, harass, annoy, or alarm another person, he or she:

(a) Strikes, shoves, kicks, or otherwise subjects him to physical contact;

(b) Harassment, as defined in paragraph (a) of subsection (1) of this section, is a Class B misdemeanor.

Das Boot out the door.

Nothing about the allegations are ok.

Teachers need to stay in their lane and focus on the goal: Get all students career ready and/or college ready.

By the description of the behavior detailed in the article, this would be considered sexual harassment if done in the work place to an adult. The fact it was with students makes it worse. I am not saying he is guilty, but if the allegations are true, this would meet the standard for sexual harassment. If the school thinks the allegations are credible, they will act on it and his employment is in jeopardy.

The best teachers I ever had were the “mean” or strict ones. Teachers, like parents, do not need to be their kids’ friends. Trying to be is just creepy.

I agree with the sentiment but it is still innocent until proven guilty.

The only "problem" there is sexual harrassment is not a crime, it is a he said/she said grey poupon/mustard ambiguous world.

Teachers are also held to the state of Kentucky "Code of Ethics." Even without being charged with a crime, he can still be fired and lose his teaching certificate.

On one hand that sounds like a good thing but on the other hand that sounds like a way for the system to circumvent due process when the system wants to get rid of you.

In education just the accusation (even if innocent) can possibly create a toxic undertone that can destroy a career.

Right, unfortunately we have moved into a time where we are guilty until proven innocent.

Sadly, but afraid you are right.
