Hoptown is the only game I’ve missed this year, but once I heard what their stud did I knew that would be everyone’s game plan moving forward. But I assumed tonight would be much like the PT game... a shoot out for a while with the cards pulling away. The problem ( if you can even call it a problem) with being 80-1 is any loss feels devastating especially for the fans who always leave on top. But this team probably needed a loss, just to show them they can be beat. They came out and surprised that private school from Memphis off the bar and it seems like they have been complacent since.. no doubt this will wake them up and I expect to see them in the title game once again.

 

I couldn't agree more with all of that. This team needed to be shown that even though you are supposed to win, and in your mind know you're going to win you still have to go out there on the field and play the game from the opening kickoff. The boys learned a lesson tonight and they'll be better for it in the end.

Line play was the difference maker. But in reality, the team that wanted it more won the game. McCracken did a great job keeping Mayfield off balance defensively. And they put so much pressure on Mayfield QB he could never get in a rhythm.

 

It was nice to see Mayfield fighting until the end. They gutted it out, had some opportunities to tie the game. They were just a couple plays short. This game is always a good measuring stick for Mayfield. And it never hurts to get a bloody lip every now and then. This game will help them in the long run. And no, their defense isn't as stellar as years past. But its September, so anyone panicking hasn't watched enough Mayfield football to know that they make adjustments and get things ironed out come November.

For Mayfield, everything said above is true and they expect to win at home as an 80-2 record will demonstrate. How many 2A squads have lines as good as McCracken County? I don't know of any. No one likes to lose, but Mayfield will use this game to get humbled come back strong for run I think will take them to Lexington.

Wide Receiver Franklin Hayes is the #5 I kept referring to in earlier posts. Just saw where he had 8 catches for 275 yards and 3 TDs in last nights game. Should have been 4 TDs. He clearly crossed the goal line on a long diving touchdown catch but the ref called him down at the 1 yard line. The kid is awesome. Throws were on the money too so got to credit the quarterback #11 Wheat also.

I agree Mayfield will be fine, but the Mustangs might be a better team than many believe. They led PT at half and mounted a furious comeback that came up short. In their brief program history they often start a bit slow and improve over the season. Not unusual for a young program.

Tilghman beats McCracken. Mayfield beats Tilghman. McCracken beats Mayfield. What does it mean? High School football is AWESOME!!!!

Drew Johnson 6'3 270 3 year starter, Harper 6'2 half 280 3 year starter, Ben Simmons 6'3 300 ( was told currently out for 3 weeks do to injury) has started half games last season, Cimala 6'2 half 250 3 year starter, J. Simmons 6'2 half 250 has multiple starts past 2 seasons, plus others that are seasoned. They platoon and wear you down. They are deep. I do know Drew Johnson, Ben Simmons, Harper getting a lot of college visits. This group has only aloud Sheran to get touched once only by Beechwood. Somersets Def is lights out, and big. They've given up 28 points. 1 kickoff return, 1 against varsity, other 2 against JV freshman late in 4th.

So much talk about Somerset skill that the Big bunnies are over looked, but they're line is legit. I hope we do make it to Lexington anything can happen to any team like Mayfield. It happens when kids get to comfortable. Hope the Jumpers take note, and don't get to cocky. They still have a long trail ahead.
