Class 2A

 

There was plenty of drama among the Top 4 teams in Class 2A. Mayfield was on the ropes and needed a 4th Quarter comeback to stave off Hopkinsville. LCA put themselves in position in the 4th Quarter for an upset, but came up short against Belfry. The big surprise was Beechwood taking the rare regular season loss to a small school foe. The Tigers are in the midst of a brutal schedule, and will now try to keep their spot in the pecking order in a huge clash with Somerset at the Briar Patch. The back half of the Top 10 will feature Danville and Owensboro Catholic looking to pull off eye opening wins against their cross-town rivals. Beechwood versus Somerset may be the biggest clash of 2A teams going head to head, but keep an eye on Carroll County and Newport as it may have potential playoff ramifications long term.

9. Danville vs. 4A #1 Boyle County

10. Lloyd Memorial vs. 5A Boone County

Beechwood being 0-6 is a very real possibility. Paintsville is the lowest ranked team they face in those first 6 games.

LCA is not open. They play Cincinnati Christian Hills. They are working to get it fixed on the KHSAA website, since it was scheduled a long time ago.

Why did Breathitt Co play Jenkins and now Magoffin Co?

Breathitt Co. Was not impressive against Rockcastle Co. In they're scrimmage. I know scrimmages don't matter. The bobcats could easily go 10-0 playing bad teams, except maybe Leslie Co. That will kill they're RPI. If I'm correct with Jenkins going 0-10 already forfeiting games and the amount of loses they're opponents are having will be costly come 3rd round with seeding, if they get there. Just my opinion

Big week of football in 2A this week. Mayfield v. PT, Somerset v. Beechwood, and Owensboro Catholic v. Owensboro, Caldwell v. Hoptown, and Danville v. Boyle Co. These games could all be very huge when factoring into the RPI for these teams. I'm excited to see how they play out.

The story I have heard is when Breathitt arranged their schedule they didn't anticipate the success (and definitely you can argue the transfers) that have come along.

 

I thought they did good by Jenkins actually. Jenkins wanted to forfeit but doing that meant they also would have forfeited their share of the gates. Instead, they played 8 vs. 8 football.

 

One thing is for sure though, for a team that appears to have a team capable of making noise and possibly going 10-0, this schedule definitely is doing the Bobcats no justice big picture.

I totally agree with this. I thought what they did showed true sportsmanship. Just a lot of buzz going around to only of played Jenkins and S. Laurel. I was just looking at the RPI. The loses could really hurt them.
