Man oh man....talk about a voice I did NOT expect to hear coming out of someone's mouth when I first saw them. This guy is great if you're into Americana and the kind of Johnny Cash/Walyon Jennings/George Jones vibe, with a little bit of Townes Van Zandt and Kris Kristofferson tossed in there too.

 

Hard believing the owner of that voice was only 21 when he wrote and recorded this song back in early 2017.

Yep, he sounds about 50 years older than he actually is.

 

 

The link shows him performing "Thirteen Silver Dollars" with his band. If you look closely, you'll see that his bass player is sporting a KSP troopers hat.

Yeah, he came up on my Ryan Bingham Pandora channel and I paused for a second when I first heard him, thinking to myself man this is a new Cash song that I've never heard. He's awesome.

I've seen him 4 times. First time I just happened to be at The Burl in Lexington. He came out on stage and started. I was in awe. Been following him every since.

 

Another guy I really like is Brent Cobb.

Another guy to check out in the same category as Colter Wall is Jeremy Pinnell. He is a local guy, but I think he is really good. He is opening a show for Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters guitarist) this weekend at Top Cats. Not sure how Jeremy's traditional country meshes with a crowd that is coming to hear whatever Shiflett is playing, but Jeremy is very good.
