The Flyers fell short of the state semifinals a season ago, exiting with a 10-3 record via a 13-7 loss in overtime against Knox Central. They'll open 2019 at an East Jessamine squad that moves up in class to 5A this year, going 4-7 in 4A last season, and falling to John Hardin in the first round of the playoffs. Will East Jessamine be able to defend their homefield or will the Flyers.... uh, fly?

I was a witness to the Franklin County vs Central Hardin scrimmage last Thursday. It was played by varsity starters for 3 quarters, then JV played 4th. Franklin County was overwhelmed by Central Hardin on both sides of the line of scrimmage. Central Hardin skill players did what they wanted. It was 38-7 Central Hardin at halftime. I have a hard time placing Franklin County in anyone's top ten.

The Flyers did struggle in the CH scrimmage but lets not be fooled these are kids just starting school back. I imagine with a fresh routine this week that staff has them refocused. They have a lot of talent in the skilled positions. I do question who will emerge as the vocal leader among this team with a lot of youth having to step up and contribute early. This should be a good first game for them to settle in and remember what the focus is. I am rolling unorthodox and going with the Flyers in a slow start and a late emergence as this winner.
