CovCaths's Kicker

Featured Replies

Problem is, kickers are only one per team, not like needing to look at a half dozen DB"s or lineman, which cuts down on opportunities. Quite a few colleges are looking at Ross Umber at Ryle as well, kicking skills are similar, class room achivements are similar and that's within a 20 mile radius. Kickers and punters need to widen the search.

Are you talking about Ross Uminger? The kid is a solid high school kicker, but doesn't have the range Popham has.

Mabe the accuracy, but I agree not the range. Only a few in the nation has the range like Popham has as a high school student.

DD I am just curious, how many 50+ yard FG's has Umber made, and or has attempted this season..... again just curious....

several...I think 53 was his longest.

Good luck to Shayne with his offers and especially the state game.

So of his 8 for 11 on field goal attempts, several of those 8 were over 50 yards? Really? Your bias towards CovCath is now causing you to make claims about KIDS that, in order to refute, make it appear that we are talking down about them. We're not. Why would you try and compare a young man who is 31 for 34 on PAT to a guy among the National leaders in Field Goals and regarded by nearly everyone as the best kicker in the state...and among the best ever? Why do that to him? It's unfair.

Seriously, you are allowing your hatred for CCH to cause you to stop even being realistic.

Ross, I'm sure you're a very good h.s. kicker -- good luck on Thursday. Enjoy the big stage. I hope you have a great game. :thumb:

For the record, Ross had 20 touch-backs in 53 kick-offs; Shane has 36 touch-backs in 58 kick-offs.

For Ross, those are still VERY impressive numbers.

and how many of those kicks that Pop didn't get into the endzone were kicks that he made becasue of Coach R telling him to squid kick it. He squid kicked at least two maybe three kicks against JC Friday night and when he was finally allowed to blast it, he kicked it out of the endzone.....

Have no idea what you are talking about. My post was in regard "kickers needing to widen their list of perspective colleges". Old Guy ask me a specific question and I answered it. How dare I compare someone to a CCH kid, is that what you are saying.

Go back and look at my CCH post, I'am with them most of the time. Your hatred for Ryle amazes me.

Hang out in Union a while, good people there, you will learn to like them eventually. By the way, your the one throwing out stats for comparrison.

I believe he lives in Union.

I know he does...and he must be lovin it.

It's a nice place. I spend quite a bit of time there myself.

You don't know what I'm talking about? You said he had several FG's over 50 yards, with a long of 53. Didn't you? Well he's made 8 of them this year, and I've found 6 of them in box scores and the long of those is 40 yards. Hmm?

Compare anyone to anyone, fine with me. Just be honest. Perhaps be open-minded. As you've seen in this thread, or another, I was among the first to say that Vince Murray is an absolute beast and a better college prospect at LB than Sam Flynn (from CCH). Didn't I?

Hatred for Ryle? That is comical. I went to school with their baseball coach, grew up with him and his brother in Villa Hills early in life, and count the Ryle Ladies' basketball coach among my circle of friends. I go to Mass across the street, and root for Ryle all of the time. I love Union...thanks. It's your incessant chirping that has my attention...not the Raiders. Don't confuse things.

Look a little harder, I know he has hit form over 50, but it was not my intention to compare kickers. And several of the CCH kids have played summer ball for me and they are great kids. If my kids didn't go to Ryle they would have gone to CCH. Union is a great community, Vince is a personal friend of the family and I get a little tired of fokes that don't know him or the Ryle Community toss out their ill informed opinions. And as long as I hear it, I will churp.

Fair enough, however, you have heard me say NOTHING but positive things about Vince.

To the kicking point, when you make claims like that ("...several over 50..."), and they are exaggerated, it is simply a disservice to what I presume is a very good young man -- and a solid H.S. kicker. No reason to embellish when his stats are respectable all on their own.

That is my only point. :thumb:

By the way, congrats to Ross for being named the 2nd Team Kicker on the No. KY Team by the KY Post. :thumb:
