Newport Central Catholic 40 Somerset 24

Somerset better than NewCath? I find that hard to believe. NCC is loaded, don't let anyone tell you different. They are the defending champions and until someone knocks them off they are the big dog!

This was a great game and both teams came out ready to play. The game was a couple turnovers and big plays away from somerset winning big. It seemed that they had there way with the Newport defense. Props go out to NEWCATH they always kept fighting and playing hard. Also Somerset played really well and should have won. I still firmly believe Somerset was the better. Way to go out Somerset. Also congrats to John Cole who broke the record great season.

Wake up man, or put down the shot glass,  No way Somerset is the better team. We would have had to play almost perfect but we didn't. Some things are things that just happen in a game, Ints, fumbles, missed tackles, etc... but 2 penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct that is unacceptable. The first was just an aggressive play but the second for the hit of bounds was a killer!

I too want to congratulate John Cole. I am realy surprised that he isn't getting all kind of post time here because he is the real deal and I truly believe that anyone at the game saw what an incredible athlete he is.

Are u kidding....:irked:

John Cole is one of the best receivers in Kentucky, hands down. Man, if he were about 3 inches taller-heck he still might be Division I!!! That kid can flat out play!!!!!! He is a junior, right? So, what are his plans for after hs? And do they have anyone like Deaton that can get him the ball 7-15 times per game next year???????

If you think about it, we hold onto the punt...that takes 7 away, we make tackles....takes 7 away, we cover on kickoff....that takes 7 away! Not saying NCC wouldnt have scored anyways but if we take those 3 mistakes away then thats 21 less points NCC has!

The muffed punt, the kickoff return and the long pass just before half were the difference in the game. However, NCC made those plays and the Jumpers didn't, it turned what could have been a down to the wire game into a solid win by NewCath. There's always a bunch of woulda, coulda, shouldas in a football game. The bottom line in NCC made the plays--that's why they are the defending champs. That doesn't diminish a great season by Somerset, but you have to give credit where credit is due.

Congrats to the 'Breds:thumb:

You've got one more to go, don't lose focus.

S Football I love your enthusiasm and that you believe we were the better team but we have been beat the last 2 years by the better team. The thing that seperates them from us is they did not make the mistakes. While they were physically bigger than us, that did not beat us. They have much better numbers but I thought you guys battled every play and did not get wore down so being out-manned did not beat us. The Breds took away our running game and we were playing catch up and couldn't get it done because when we would get close we shot ourselves down with boneheaded penalties and turnovers.

Yeah and everything you just mentioned is what makes them a better team! We made mistakes they did not. You left out the penalties. Man that is part of the game and we just did not execute. I think if we play them 10 times they win 8-9 and the one or 2 that we win we would have to play a perfect game and N.C.C. be off.

:jump:

If Somerset didn't have a receiver who is some kind of 155 pound magician who could catch any ball thrown to him with guys draped all over him for 3 TDs they would have had 3 points.........although wait I think he made a couple of catches on that field goal drive too.......so it would have been a shutout!!! I think he used Jedi mind tricks (you really don't want to knock that pass down) or he just closes his eyes and uses the Force. :jump:

If you think John Cole is the whole reason we were able to put up points and win this year, then my friend you are badly mistaken, yes i will agree he made pretty much all of the big plays on Friday night, but he isn't the main reason in why this was a good Briar Jumper football team.

Congrads on the win. I am like OldRambler if it couldnt be us then lets go NCC. I thought your fans especially the student section was great fun to watch.
