The word I got was they didn't have any teaching positions opened in the district. I do know Derrick Robinson who works as a certified teacher in the district was interviewed for the job.

The word is Robinson was a special education Instructional assistant. There is a teacher with more than enough experience that applied.

That doesn't matter one bit that he isn't a certified teacher, he still meets the minimum requirements needed to be hired as a coach, whether head or assistant. :idunno:

 

No disrespect, but it sounds like you need to apply to be an AD at a school & go from there. Hiring coaches to fit the puzzle piece of not having positions in the building to put them during certain situations or not hiring a person who is already in the building or was on staff usually comes down to either wanting a change in the direction of the program or just them not being a good fit.

Problems things are happening with the hire? Coach Brown was barely hired over a week ago. Are there problems with the actual hire? Or are there problems with a small group of people who wanted to see another candidate hired and have now all taken to wailing & moaning and refusing to accept that the person they wanted didn't get hired?

 

Speaking as someone on the outside of the situation looking in, it certainly appears to be the latter rather than the former. Coach Brown's resume sure makes him look like a very suitable, qualified candidate for the position he was hired for. Looking at his qualifications, I can't help but think that the folks who keep acting like that was a "bad hire" just have sour grapes.

I see more and more cases where people with playing experience and AAU experience are getting head coaches jobs but don’t know how to teach the game. AAU Coaches assemble teams of talented players. Very seldom to they teach the kids to be that talented.

 

Those situations where coaches are hired and are not great teachers of the game, usually do not end well.
