Blind taste test. Would you take a SG 25 ppg who shoots 54% from 3pt range and 58% from the field or PG 17ppg 33% from 3pt range and 50% from the field? Positional need I guess?

I like Morrison. His numbers are impressive. Conley by the way shot in the low 40s from the field and 33% from 3. So if you’re basing your picks on numbers, you aren’t taking him anymore, right? But who I take would be based on their all around game. Oh, and can they play both ends of the floor? Spencer and South Oldham weren’t exactly known for getting defensive stops last season.

I was told his injury was less severe than his sibling. She came back a few weeks before tournament time.

In evaluating players I look at who can play both ends. Some players can control a game without having great stats. Point guards and defensive stoppers can do this.

Who is a better offensive player? Powell or Morrison.

 

 

Since I prefer players that play defense I lean toward McKnight and Conley for best players in the 8th.

The Powell kid played soph. yr with a top 5 team in Kentucky at Trinity. Last year he played for one of the top programs in the country at Montverde Academy. He's coming to the 8th region his senior year and committed to Auburn, a team that was in the final four last year and close to winning the whole thing. Powell is the front runner. IMO

McKnight and Vail are both top 5 in the 8th. Conley and Morrison round out the top 5. Niece is up there if he returns 100% by tourney time. Rassman is a sleeper with Gallatin. Not saying he's in the Powell/ McKnight category but he may average 20 plus. The kid is a player. So is Trevor Hardin at Henry and Supplee at Carroll. Reece Webster should become Trimble County's all time leading scorer this year as an added bonus. He will be playing small college ball somewhere too. Shaping up for a great year in 8th.

If your going by kids that will play college at some level then Spencer County has four kids in the starting lineup that should play college ball somewhere. Injuries would be the only thing that will sidetrack that.

I would say individual rankings are based upon watching these kids play in the summer against top competition. If your playing high level AAU and are successful then you are a pretty good player and should be ranked higher accordingly. I don't like rankings for younger players but by the time they are juniors or seniors it can be pretty accurate. You will always have some kids who don't get seen as much not be ranked as high as they should but overall the rankings are legit in my eyes. I've followed the 2021 class in Kentucky for the past 11 years and have seen pretty much most of the top players play and I would say most of the rankings services are pretty accurate. Some players on the list are overrated or underrated but overall not far off.

Powell is a tremendous defender. I would consider him an elite defender due to his length. He is an incredible passer and a solid shooter.

Morrison is best shooter in the state. McKnight best athlete in region and an incredible rebounder for his size.

.Those 3 are heads above the rest of th region players. That isn’t a knock on the other players but those 3 I mentioned are 1st team or second team all state caliber.

Dallas Roberts from North will be up there too (small right now as he is just a freshman). Offensively Roberts is just behind those top 3. He competes on D but just not there physically yet.

Conley is very good HS player too.
