Covington Holy Cross 67 Ryle 41

Final

Final from Latonia.

Holy Cross played without two starters again tonight but really played well on both ends of the floor. Defensive pressure forced a lot of turnovers by Ryle.

Holy Cross was led by sophomore Brandon McClendon with 16 points, sophomore Jeremiah Hicks added 15 and junior Carter Haney had 13.

Ryle was led by senior Vince Rankin with 18 points.

Ryle's inside game was totally shut down by Knochelmann. He's a force when he keeps his arms up and stays out of foul trouble.

Does anyone know if Vince Rankin is getting any offers for college. I am a Holy Cross guy but have really enjoyed watching him play the last few years. Really nice basketball player.

Totally off topic so apologies if I am thread jacking a little bit. I don't know if the young man has any basketball offers but I have said for 3 years I would have loved to have seen what he could do on the football field (or maybe he's played already and I didn't know it). I know nothing about him from a football physicality standpoint or if he had an interest in the sport but he's definitely got the physic of a football player and could see him as a TE/DE.

He played in middle school and maybe freshman year. Skipped sophmore and junior year to concentrate on basketball. He came out of retirement for his senior year and played football. I agree that he could have been a very good football player had he not retired early. BTW...super nice kid!
