Thought on Lawrence County Football

I was wondering what happened to LC. In the 1990's they were always a top program in this area. It usually starts at the bottom. The top programs in this area always have well run JFL programs that usually teach basics of whatever the high school is trying to do. It is not odd to see Russell JFL teams running a Wing T or Raceland Youth teams throwing the ball 3 out 4 downs.

What level involvement is there at the ground level in LC fanofkyfootball?

Well I just got done coaching the 5th and 6th grade youth league teams and the 6th grade just won the Orange AND Black Bowls this fall and the 5th grade was very dangerous at the end of the year when they started to understand the system that I had installed on both sides of the ball. Great talent on the youth levels and coaches are needed but we appreciate the ones we have there now as well.

You are always going to have low numbers and alot of transfers when you are having losing years as LC has had for the past 3 years.

Where are they transferring to?

A big thumbs up to you for taking the time to teach these kids. Most of the volunteer work goes unnoticed or is taken for granted. Your work will pay off in a few years as the little dogs become big dogs. Nice job!!:thumb:

Thanks for the kind words, nothing makes me happeier than being out there with those young men teaching them the greatest sport in the world.

LC is going thru A rebuilding year just like all teams go thru,LC will be back I watched them play this year at BC,they have alot of heart and they dont give up.The fans show alot of support for the team year in and out. This team will be back.

I am sure they enjoy it just as much. You are not only teaching football but also a lot of life's lessons. Hopefully, one of the kids you are coaching, someday comes back and keeps the cycle going.

The youth league is very strong and you can say the same for the middle school and freshmen, JV squads. All the talent is there for a great team and I am pretty sure that Billy knows this as well. Just wait until this thing gets rolling again in Louisa because it will be a great time to be a Bulldog fan.:ylsuper:

And you have my thanks and regards also fanofkyfootball. Having coached youth sports in the past I know how gratifyinfg that it is. Imo you are an example of why the LCHS program will come back to what the fans in Louisa expect.:thumb:

I too enjoyed the old days when Raceland played LC. If we won, the bus driver would circle the Bluegrass on our way back down 23. (showing my age)

But as a parent of student athletes, if mine attended LC, my concern would be on the "student" part. With the recent investigations of the superintendent and test score lowering, transferring would be for academic reasons as opposed to sports reasons. At Raceland, all athletes have to maintain a C average in order to play sports. If the gpa drops below a C average, the athlete sits the bench until it is brought up. The coaches all check the grades of the athlete regularly and back the school board's decision completely. The athlete knows this policy is followed and keep their gpa's up. This isn't anything new at Raceland as it has been in effect since the late 1970's. I read an article in the ADI a few years back when Ashland started using this same policy. It forces the athlete to set priorities. "student first, athlete second"

Having coached youth sports in the past I know how gratifyinfg that it is.

HAHAHA

I am trying in install some of the footwork, formation looks that the high school and middle school runs so that the boys wont be confused when they get to that level and having years of experience running this brand of football should help these young men gain success at the high school level. Honestly, I love LC football and coaching at any level is just my way of trying to help and stay involved with the program that I love.
