Rockcastle County 13 Bell County 0

I'm a little confused on some things here. Unless high school is very different from the NFL, the defender has a right to the ball as well. That's why they have offensive pass interference. I'm not saying that's what it was. What I am saying is that the defender was going for the ball too and when the two hit, they were both facing back toward the QB and hit shoulder to shoulder. So I don't see how you can strictly say it was defensive.

The play about the Bell QB over the line of scrimmage, if 3Wishes says it's on film, I'm going to take his word on it as opposed to somebody saying "well it looked to me...." since they only see it once at normal speed. I don't know if he was or not. From where I was setting, I couldn't see where he was at due to the Rock sideline.

About the sacks that we got called for unsportsmanlike conduct, I only saw one. Apparently there were more. I don't know what I was looking at then. But the one I saw was in the 4th and there was never a time that the defender bent over and put his finger in the QB's face. He has his fists closed and pumped his fists. It only looked like he was in his face, because he's a fairly short player.

The defender hit the WR before the ball ever got there, you cant knock a WR off his route, it was clearly interference.

As for whether or not he was past the line of scrimmage, I really dont know. Jim Shue says he wasnt, 3wishes says he was. I really dont know and it doesnt really matter.

Also, the Unsportsmanlike penalty wasnt as bad as the 1st taunting after the sack. It was the 1st sack of the game when the defender was pointing at the QB and taunting. And obviously he was taunting on the last one as well, when they actually called the penalty, but it didnt look as bad.

Also, why in the world UL would pull Durham's scholly is beyond me. A guy that big played basically every snap and is a handful. Hes a great football player.

I heard that Coach Larkey's comment on this was very simple, .."I really hope that he decides to go to UK. It would be good for him to play for a coach like Brooks who has great ethics."

Congrats to Rock on a great win and Bell on another great season!

I honestly don't remember the first sack. I very well could've been talking to my wife or a friend of mine that was setting behind me. I don't deny that it happened. But come on. It's football. It's Rock vs. Bell. I'm 27 and I have trouble controlling my emotions. I'm not a 15-17 year old kid in the playoffs against our biggest rival. I'm sure it's even harder for them to control emotions. Surely you're not saying the Bell has never had a player do that.

Anyway, I'm still claiming that it wasn't pass interference. It was a bang-bang play. I thought the defender got there at the same time. It could have looked worse since the defender, if I remember correctly, was Shawn Childress who is a very large DB. And when he hit the receiver, who wasn't bracing himself because he was trying to make the catch, he took the worst end of the hit and made it look worse than it was.

I'm sure that both teams did some things that should have been called and got away with, and some things that should've been called and wasn't.

First of all the so called penalty on the fumble was not a penalty but the ref pulling the flag to mark the spot instead of his bean bag. Secondly I don't care how many games you win or lose, the refs should not tolerate any coach throwing a temper tantrum. The so called pass interference is also a judgement call. Rock came out and punched Bell square in the nose on the opening drive and the best team won in a smash mouthed football game. The Rock got no help from the refs. Should have taken your own advice in your opening statement.

I agree that Rock truly won the game as you say. Just my point, they did not need the assistance from the officials that they had from before the first whistle. If you think that they were not going to call things Larkey's way in his house then you haven't been around mountain football very long. It is the same thing at Log Mountain. These two coaches and teams rate highly with the officiating crews and they are not going to alienate the home coach at either field. It has been that way for years and will continue.

Let me qualify know how the officiating crew was together last night. They approved the game balls. One of the kicking balls was declared to have too much air....so the referee had kicker take air out of the ball. Then when Bell started to kickoff the game....the same ball was rejected by another official...BECAUSE IT DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH AIR....!! LOL! They then proceeded to approve a ball to be used to replace that one that they previously had declared "too worn" for game play prior to game! Rock clearly won this game, as I said earlier. They were the bigger more experienced team. Coach Hilton has been around a long time and is as good sport as you will find. He, as Larkey, will reprimand players for unsportmanlike conduct. He lost his cool....only after a complete series of incidents including a dangerous early hit on a WR going across the middle. He finally boiled over. Rockcastle had a player that held constantly in game #1. The officials were asked to watch him this game....to no avail. Players that strong and size don't need to hold! The officiating crew was not together from the beginning. I've had my say.

If you will read through the thread you will see Ive already said numerous times that Bell players also showed bad sportsmanship a couple times. Don't get me wrong, I know stuff like that happens, but it should not be just accepted and be said to be okay IMO.

As for the pass interference no call, if a WR gets hit, like Childress hit Zachary, its obviously pass interference. It did not effect the outcome of the game in any way, but I do think that was a bad call. For me, that was the only call, or no call all game that as a fan watching the game I got upset at.

So.....are you complaining about the officials or what? I don't see how you can, considering that you said it happens on Log Mountain too. I agree, it does happen there. There was a lot of complaints after last year's regular season game up there at the end when Bell scored to take the lead. Many people that were there said there was no way the RB got across the line. I've even heard you can clearly see it on tape.

I also heard last night that on Coach Hilton's radio show he made a comment something like, everything that Rockcastle football is, they learned from Bell Co. Is that true?

I think what the earlier post about him jumping around was intending to state was that any other coach would've gotten a flag thrown. The way he ran out on the field, threw his clip board, went to his knees, flung his arms around and ran down the sideline was uncalled for. Sure he was upset. That's fine. But the way he acted AT LEAST should have gotten a warning. But no, nothing was said. The officials just turned their heads and looked away. I won't even mention what he did after the playoff game last year at Bell to one of our assistant coaches.

Please, Coach Hilton is a class act. So you want to say that its okay for the football players to taunt the other players, but its not okay for a coach to throw a fit on a play arguing that the ref should be protecting his players. Come on.

As for Coach Hilton's remark about Rockastle on the radio, he has said several times that Rock were not on the level of football Bell was and have worked really hard to get to that point, which they have been the last 6 or 7 years. And he usually compares it to what Bell had to do to get to the level of football that Corbin, Mboro, and Cawood, were at when he came to Bell County. And it took a few years.

One thing I have noticed with several good coaches is when they are very successful people look for things to criticize them for. I know Coach Hilton personally and have been around him a lot. He is a very good man that parents are lucky to have their kid playing for.

My bad. I must have been in a coma or something. I wasn't aware that I said it was ok for players to taunt. I thought what I said was pretty clear. So let me try to explain it a little better for you. Many of the posts on here have talked bad about our players for taunting, almost making it sound like they're dirty players. All I'm saying is, don't be so quick to judge them. I don't recall any other games this year in which we had players taunting. However, Bell does the same thing. So if you're going to talk bad about us, you need to look in the mirror, because you all have been known to do it to. Remember, everytime you point your finger, three more are pointing back at you. Think about it.

As far as coach Hilton, my point was that there should have at least been a bench warning for the way he was acting. I haven't seen overacting like that since David Carusso in CSI: Miami. Have you ever seen coach Larkey do that? NO!!! You have not. Come to think of it, I don't recall seeing very many coaches at all doing something like that. And certainly not getting away with it.

LMB - I'm sure Brad enjoyed the remark you made to him at the game, it was nice of you to do so. I know you are a Wilcat fan as I am. Bad things may have been said or may not, I have no clue and I just don't see how anyone would know if something was said. The kid in question is 5'5 and from my dealings with him, would not come out and say vulgur words on the field. I'm not blaming the Bobcats team, the coaching staff or anyone as a matter of fact, however, I was just disappointed that enough of the fans (to be heard loudly) was chanting Louisville Reject during the 2nd half when things obvisouly not going their way. No one is to be blamed, as I stated but he did hear it as did our bleachers on Rock's side, but I understand that fans and espcially students like to get their jabs in but I was mostly just disappointed that it was said. The referees were from NKY so I'm not sure if they excatly wanted to play HOMER for either team by the way. Either way good game to the Bobcats, we'll see you guys at the Log next season.

Please, I wish you would read the thread. I have said time and time again that there was bad sportsmanship on both sides. And yes I am looking in the mirror. If I had not brought up the fact that Bell had played with bad sportsmanship I would understand your point.

As for Coach Hilton, unless you know the man and know what hes all about I find it hard to criticize him. He is a great person on top of being a great coach. The no call there in my mind was horrible and when your WR gets hit early going across the middle it is upsetting. Its like you said, when you point a finger at someone 3 point back.

:thumb: Take your own advice.

I completely agree with you. I told a couple of the students I knew when they were walking by, that they shouldnt chant that, for one thing he is whooping us all over the field.

As for the referees I do not think they were cheating or anything like that. I seen one bad no call against Bell. And also, I dont know one way or the other, but the QB may have stepped over the line of scrimmage.

Also, I do not accuse the player of yelling profanities at him, but I seen it as taunting twice. Bell got a penalty for taunting as well. Thats the way I seen it.

I got a feeling I have been around alot longer than you have been. I cannot agree with your statements about the quality of refs.

That's a knee slapper...

I'm pretty sure that those officials had to look at a map in order to figure out where Rockcastle Countly might be located.

Thanks, 3 Wishes. You always seem to have a balanced response. I enjoy your posts. I was on this site for a long time as on "observer" before "pay'in up" and throwing in my two cents worth. I was not trying to imply that the officiating was bad, just not together as a team. They should never enter a game of this stature without beanbags and use flags to spot ball. That inflames and confuses the crowd. It is your responsibility to control the field and in turn the crowd as well. But when a coach of the status of Hilton or Larkey is in the mix, the officials do call the game differently. It may not even be intentional. That is also why if they had seen Larkey do what Hilton did (by the way I have never seen Dudley react that way) they would have tended to react same way as they had to Hilton. I have refereed over 500 games in other sports (never football, due to an old football injury) and I understand how it works. They are going to be conscious of the home coach and crowd. They wanted to let the players play....something in most cases I agree with...therefore, a lot of no-calls. However, you lose control of the game and crowd when you allow certain types of "hits", etc. like that no-call on the pass interference. It was after that "hyped up the crowd" that the students began that disgraceful chant against a class athlete. They were angered by the no-call and took it out on him. I have stated on other threads my opinion of how I feel about Louisville's poorly timed (and one that will haunt them in future) decision to not KEEP THEIR WORD to one of our Mountain kids! I wish Rockcastle the best and hope they get to go to the carpet and bring home the title to the mountains! Go Rockets!
