November 10, 200619 yr BTW, Rush claiming he's glad he doesn't have to carry the water anymore is like the young boy claiming that the gorgeous , smart cheerleader wasn't "his type."
November 10, 200619 yr Man, I knew that argument was coming. Its not quite that simple to brush off. I think I heard today that KO's audience was over 1M last night. That's a significant increase regardless of what mathematical justification one uses. Add in that Bill O. has been losing audience and it seems to go hand in hand with the voting results of this week. I don't think anyone can brush off all non-Republicans as having no influence. Actually, I think it is good for the liberals to have somjeone to love and follow and for the conservatives to hate. However, Olbermann is a light weight in every way. You need someone with some credibility. Olbermann seems to be preoccupied with Bill O'Reilly. He takes cheap shots at him on every program. It reminds one of how everyone took shots at the Yankees when they were in their prime. O'Reilly, on the other hand, never mentions Olbermann whom he obviously considers to be nothing but, at most, a minor overmatched nuisance. If you liberals want to draw a crowd, get someone with "real iintellect" like Sean Penn, Alex Baldwin, or one of those plentiful airhead actresses. Actually, your best bets would be Carville or Begala. They at least have a track record.

He recently named another competitor Glenn Beck (who has a show on CNN Headline News), his third place "Worst Person in the World" award." I don't particularly enjoy Beck's show because he is more moderate in many ways and spends much less time discussing political issues than other conservative talkers. Olbermann is a very insecure and unstable human being, IMO. Who can forget his "wide left" attack on Bill O'Reilly's college football career as a punter? If Olbermann's pathetic excuse for a talk show ever reaches the audience that Rush reaches then we will all be in big trouble as a nation.
November 10, 200619 yr I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I watch Olbermann. He's pitiful! He reminds me of an old SNL skit with Buck Henry playing a radio call in host. He kept saying more and more outlandish things trying to get the phones to light up. He ended up in support of the Russians coming over and taking all the puppies and killing them, or something like that.
November 10, 200619 yr KO for "speaker of the house". Well, the voters selected that nut in the 3rd Congressional District and we also have similar fruits and nuts like Pelosi, Conyers, Frank, Kennedy, Dingell, and probably Jesse Jackson and Sharpton to look forward to so the moons must be in alignment. Olbermann would be a good addition to the fruit cake.

November 10, 200619 yr BTW, Rush claiming he's glad he doesn't have to carry the water anymore is like the young boy claiming that the gorgeous , smart cheerleader wasn't "his type."That really is not an accurate characterization of what Rush said. If you read the transcript carefully and objectively, he made the "carrying the water" comment in the context that he was tired of making excuses to conservatives for people who ran as conservatives and governed like liberals. Like me, he saw a Republican Congress and President as the lesser of evils. The greater evil won, so there is a real need to reform the Republican Party and stop acting defensively. Rush will be a part of that process because of his huge, well informed and politically active audience. Now that Republicans have lost control of Congress and Bush has hoisted the white flag on several major issues and is a lame duck anyway, Rush will spare nobody from sharp attacks for straying from core conservative positions. IMO, conservatives lost control of Congress when Republicans let Newt Gingrich walk away. Limbaugh must be the most often quoted out of context entertainer alive. The guy is on the air 15 hours a week and some unfortunate liberal must either have to listen to him or read through those transcripts to find short quotes to misrepresent his positions. I get frustrated at Rush's Republican-boosterism myself and I rarely listen to him (but used to be a semi-regular ditto-head), but I have listened to him enough to know that nobody, with the possible exception of Gingrich, does a better job of articulating American conservatives' core shared values. Rush is much more entertaining with liberals in power, IMO. It amazes me how people can defend Olbermann's hateful diatribes, yet characterize conservative talk radio as "hate radio." Rush is one of the most courteous hosts on the air.
November 10, 200619 yr Author ...O'Reilly, on the other hand, never mentions Olbermann whom he obviously considers to be nothing but, at most, a minor overmatched nuisance.[/Quote] Well, for someone that considers him to be nothing more than an overmatched nuisance, he sure appears to have overreacted: "Recently, O'Reilly cracked. He said anyone who spoke Olbermann's name on his program would hear from Fox security and apparently, at least one caller to his radio program already has". Quoted from this article - http://www.onthemedia.org/otm031006.html O'Reilly also launched a petition to have MSNBC remove Keith Olbermann from the air (as if ANYONE outside of the FOX group would even consider such a move). I'm guessing that O'Rielly sees Olbermann as MUCH more than a minor nuisance. If you liberals want to draw a crowd, get someone with "real iintellect" like Sean Penn, Alex Baldwin, or one of those plentiful airhead actresses. Actually, your best bets would be Carville or Begala. They at least have a track record. Fair enough. We'll take Keith Olbermann as our pundit, and you conservatives can keep the two intellectual giants known as Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity. For my money, the Goldie Hawn personae that she perfected on Laugh-In was the mental equal of Hannity, Limbaugh, or O'Reilly. Since you were kind enough to give us your views of Olbermann, I thought it would be fair to share my opinion of the conservative mouthpieces. Frances

November 10, 200619 yr Author ... Rush is one of the most courteous hosts on the air. ... can't breathe ... gasp ... need air ... laughing uncontrollably ... eyes tearing up ... gasp ... Whew. Okay - I'm better now. If you are comparing Limbaugh to Sean Hannity in terms of courtesy, I will agree. Talk about setting the bar low. Frances

November 10, 200619 yr If you liberals want to draw a crowd, I simply point out that KO's audience is growing and Bill O's is shrinking and suddenly I'm a "liberal." Interesting.

Since you were kind enough to give us your views of Olbermann, I thought it would be fair to share my opinion of the conservative mouthpieces. Frances We are partially in agreement, Frances. Hannity is, indeed, an intellectual lightweight. Although the same can be said of Olbermann (he needed to stick to ESPN), O'Reilly is obviously a learned and informed man. Now, you may not like him or his arrogance but you cannot doubt his intelligence. Limbaugh, though not well educated, is no fool. Goldie Hawn may well be the equal of Hannity and Olbermann, which is certainly no compliment to any of the three, but to compare Olbermann to O'Reilly reminds me of a statement once made by William F. Buckley. Once, Buckley was asked why Bobby Kennedy would never appear on Buckley's show, "Firing Line". Buckley replied, "Why does bologna avoid the meatgrinder". The analogy was appropriate then and it is appropriate now. As for any "interest" O'Reilly may have in Olbermann, I would suggest it is somewhat like having a gnat swarming around you. Sooner or later, you will take a swipe at it. Of course, viewerwise, Olbermann hasn't reached the gnat level yet.

Rush is one of the most courteous hosts on the air. I was going off of memory from seeing the actual video of him saying what he said so maybe my memory was bad. So, I found a transcript and this SEEMS to back up what I was saying: Now I'm liberated from having to constantly come in here every day and try to buck up a bunch of people who don't deserve it, to try to carry the water and make excuses for people who don't deserve it. How do you read that? I read it as saying "I was lying when I acted like I was supporting them because I didn't like the other side." Agree? Sounds like a guy who either is trying to save face or will say anything to support the Right. If credibility was of utmost importance, I would think he would have simply said "see, I told you the Republican party was having problems." To say it now leaves a bitter taste in some people's mouths.
